Model on Couch

I'm new at this (mostly landscape and wildlife), but thought I'd give portrait a try. This shot was taken inside a hotel with one flash (sb900) bounced of a wall. C and C most definately requested. Thanks for any comments.

Well, here's my .02....It's a too dark and needs some lightening up; I'm not that fond of the background as its kind of distracting. The pose seems a bit ackward and it might have been better if she were sitting down,lengthwise. Keep doing more....there's going to be a lot more rejects at first...but, that's part of the process....

The second one is also dark; the background is better...

You may find that using a speedlight bounced won't provide the light you need...

First one doesn't do anything for me. Way too dark, pillow shouldn't be there, shadow behind leg...when I look at the second pic I'm surprised you put the first up to begin with. You have a lot more in the 2nd, but still very, very dark. Go in photoshop and boost the levels...then go back to the original and see how dark it is compared to one with correct levels. I do love the background colors, the DOF and pose, but again, way too dark.
