Hi
Yesterday i finished renovation of studio. What was done: - more depth by removing a wall - walls and ceiling painted black / grey - new floor Dimensions now: 4.3m width x 5.7m depth x 2.8m height These were done WITHOUT seamless paper, so this will hopefully be a huge savings when not doing full body shoots. 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() Now i have a lot of things to play with and new ones to pay attention to, i.e. not cutting feet ... i am going to make a diagram anytime soon.
phototakeouter, the back wall where the seamless hangs and the 2 walls in the depth are black. The ceiling is black as well as the room is not very high. The wall opposite the seamless is grey with the walls up to 1 meter. This is the place where the computer is installed as well as the changing /storage room and the place from where i shoot. Thank you Frank. At the beginning i thought that the black color had a blue-isch cast but it is ok. Now i have to wait for the return of the D-Lite 4 until i can test the white seamless ![]() I have some fun now with the 44cm beautydish... no spill , this is so nice. Nicolas |

N,
Can you modify your measurements into English units please. I am rusty with my metric conversions. It looks like a nice renovation. I would ask your models to be more selective in their undergarments if they are going to use those types of dresses. Lumps, shadows and pinches are not flattering. As a simple example, I would have asked the girl in the white dress in the first image to remove her panties and they create a shadow and break up the line at her hip. It would still be modest enough due to the normal opacity and shadows of the dress. I paint my ceiling half gray and half white, with the front(toward camera position) white so I can use an over head bounce when I want to. You could always just fly a flat for bounce too though. I made my back wall a dark gray rather than black, because it takes less light to make a good color burst on gray than black and when I really want black I use either more distance and velvet on the floor, or velvet overall. |

I agree with you concerning the dresses. The 2 young ladies just dropped in and i could talk them into a test session. They were not at all at ease with the VERY transparent dresses. In the original picture, you can see her white panties, but i PS'd them out. I prefer to be in total control. Normally i have 7 flashheads (3 D-Lite 4, 3 Style RX600 and a Ranger RX Speed AS with ringflash and A-Head) but the D-Lite are out for maintenance. Derek: It was not so easy to find the black mat color as most are satin or semi-gloss. The water-based color is washable though. The walls need regular dusting because you can virtually see every dust particle. The walls need to be perfectly even, otherwise you see every bump. Having one corner of black walls gives as well other possibilities for posing I wanted the wooden look so i went for laminated flooring. Witex Products Home Laminate marena I choose the japanese cherry (with sound isolation) for its warm slighty reddish color I do not regret the choices (ok, i only had one session right now). The depth is an acceptable minimum, width is ok. Only when positionning the Elinchrom Octa 190cm on one side and the Strip 33x175 on the other side, width could be be an additional meter. And the room could be higher by at least half a meter. I have a 6x40W halogen spot system on the ceiling wihich is sufficient for orientation. For the grey i took the white balance card as reference. For exact color i do have the RAL numbers at home, i can post them later on. By the end of the week i should have additional 4 sessions, so more comments will follow. Nicolas |
