This is from a recent shoot done for a new makeup artist to help her build her portfolio. Lots of color and definitely not walking around town makeup. The theme and props were hers and it was a lot of fun doing something different.
Please don't hesitate to express your opinion. I respect and appreciate ALL feedback and critique. 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() __________________

I am looking at this on my iPad which is subjective but color is typically pretty try on it and these seem to have a tad too much magenta in the skintone.
That said you did an excellent job of capturing images that are actually useful to the MUA's book. Keep in mind though that when shooting for the book of an MUA skin smoothing and blemish removal are No No's. the only retouching should be to balance color and maybe a touch of whiten / brighten for eyes and teeth. Using lit to help smooth skin for your MUA would be acceptable as long as you are not going so intense with it that ou burn out her foundation. As a photographer looking at the book of an MUA I want to see what she can do for the skin of the model not what the retouched can do. Remember that a significant portion of why we use a makeup artist is that they help us reduce the amount of time we spend retouching.. |

Nice job Keith.
I particularly like #s 3 & 4. The expression in #3 just kills me. ![]() |

I haven't worked for an MUA's port before this. Always before it was for the model's port and I paid the MUA. Quote:

I like this set. I'm not sure what your lighting situation is, but it seems to me (at least on this monitor) that these would have benefited from more lighting on the background. These are such fun and colorful shots that to me they should be on a very bright (perhaps not blown white, but close) background - the light gray background in these dulls them down just a tad.
I'd like to second the motion to leave more room under her lip in shot 5. I also think I see a vignette - if so, I'd suggest removing it. As I mentioned above, this subject matter wants a bright and airy feel, there's no need to darken any portion of it. And in this particular shot you don't need the vignette to help center the viewer's attention. Centering the viewer's eye brings it to the model's nose (which has a natural eye-attracting highlight anyway) and not to the made-up eye or lips or even the lollipop, all of which are more deserving of attention than her nose. Love the expression you captured, though, and even with not much to go on I see some life in her eye. Cheers, Rob __________________
