Each... De Goedheiligman (Sinterklaas) arrived in The Netherlands on Saturday as is tradition every year.

Each year at this time, there are Sinterklaas parades all across The Netherlands and I'm lucky enough to live in a steet that the parade passes down.

In The Hague, Sinterklaas arrives by boat at the harbour and then makes his way through the city, eventually finishing in the centre of the business district late in the day.

We had just arrived home from the kids Rugby in the morning, with about 10 minutes to go.

The crowds started to build and the police appeared and then the Zwarte Piet's started coming. My wife and kids went down to the street, but I just leaned out the window from the 1st floor.

There were a lot of Zwarte Piet (Black Pete) characters, who normally spend their time up on roofs, but some more modern transport is easier these days:

Every Friday morning inmates from county lockup are seen picking up trash along the side of the road. I honestly don't know how I feel about dressing them this way. It's so "Oh Brother Where Art Thou.", but the inmates here still wear stripes. From what I've been told they look forward to Friday mornings as it is a chance to get out and see some different scenery and soak up the sun. You often see them laughing with one another and smiling.

If the mods feel that this crosses the line let me know and I'll remove it. You couldn't see their eyes too well anyway, but I added the black box just to preserve their identity.
