This weeks assignment is to try to show power through the structures we build.

This can be much more than photographs of large buildings. Unusual angles or camera positions, abstracts of fine detail, shots around twilight and structures surviving harsh environments can all help build an image of power over both ourselves and our surroundings.

See how you can interpret the theme and come up with some new images (and old if you have them) that express the theme.

The city was bombed by the Germans in 1940 and most of the... At the end of WWII, the Dutch had a lot of reconstruction to complete in Rotterdam.

The city was bombed by the Germans in 1940 and most of the city centre was destroyed. At the time, square concrete blocks were erected to provide quickly, cheap housing.

Wijnhaven Island, close to the city centre is one of the areas that was full of ugly, square blocks, but it is currently being renovated, with a plan for a complete urban redesign that will bring together a mix of a 'mini manhattan' and old italian village feel.

The first of the new buildings is now almost complete and based on the mini manhattan theme, it's called 'The Red Apple'.

I need to go back and photograph it at dusk once it's fully occupied, but here are a couple of shots from this morning:
