Jobu Wide Angle Adapter??

I have the Jobu Jr. 2 Kit (http://www.jobu-design.com/catalog/item/2588354/6009620.htm) gimbal.

I have the Jobu Jr. 2 Kit gimbal.

It works well. However, it is only designed for a lens with a collar. Whenever, I want to use my tripod with a smaller lens, I have been taking off the gimbal and putting on a Markins Q3T ballhead. This too works OK. Yet, I worry that the constant screwing/unscrewing of the gimbal and head will eventually cause wear on the their threads (maybe I do not need to worry?). There is also a time factor.

Jobu also makes a Wide Angle Adapter Bracket.

It is allows one to use cameras without collared lens on the gimbal.

It looks a little cumbersome. One could put a QR clamp on the camera bar to speed up things. Then one just uses the gimbal QR clamp for the WAA and clamp on the camera.

I guess I could order one and try it and if I did not like it return it. That would cost me some postage. I thought I would check here first to see if anyone has used one or know of someone that has used one?

Thanks.

Hello,

I am looking to purchase a relatively small and lightweight travel tripod+head. This will be for a Canon 40D + EF 24-105mm f/4L setup. I have narrowed my choices down to the following:

Manfrotto 7302YB Aluminum with Ball Head = $115

or

Smith Victor CF300 Carbon Fiber with Ball Head = $180

My budget is around $120-180.

I realize that carbon fiber is preferred to aluminum. Both tripods have 4 leg sections. The Manfrotto supports a maximum load of 7.72 lbs while the Smith Victor supports 8.8 lbs. Also, the Smith Victor ends to 64" while the Manfrotto has a maximum height of 56." Not sure how much of an advantage this will be, but the Manfrotto does have an advantage in terms of folded length - 20" versus 24.7" for the Smith Victor.

Thanks for the help/advice.

Multi-day Hiking Camera Backpack

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if there's any hikers on here that can give me some tips on packing a DSLR with a couple of lenses to take on hiking trips.

My wife and I just took a simple 2 day camping trip to Saturna Island. We were anticipating a drive-in campground, but it turned out that the parking was 2km away from the camp site. I currently have a LowePro FastPack 350 (maybe its a 250... I forget...), and I was anticpating that this would be sufficient for a drive-in campsite so I could bring the camera with us on hikes, since I did not need space for sleeping bags and tents etc.

Having to hike 2km to the camp site made me realize how much I would have appreciated a backpack that could accommodate both camera equipment AND camping equipment, since undoubtedly this won't be the last time we have to hike into the camp site. I don't really want to carry all the stuff by hand again LOL.

I've been looking around, and am having a hard time finding a backpack that gives easy camera access, as well as space for a sleeping bag, tent, pad that goes under the sleeping bag, and food/supplies. The packs I've seen appear to be geared toward day-trips.

What do you guys do when you need to carry everything in one pack, and still want relatively quick access to the camera?

Thanks!

Custom Sliding L Bracket...Possible?

I'm sure there is some head out there that would be like what I'm talking about but is there such a thing where the L bracket would be like the rails on a roller coaster attached to a quick release that could articulate like the different cars on a roller coaster?

That would be great! I'm considering getting an L Bracket and it would be more of a convenience factor than anything else so you wouldn't have to release the camera before changing orientations?

If you understand what I"m talking about and know of something like this, let me know!
