To all fans of the Off Topic forum, it's been brought to our attention that some of the recent threads in this section have veered towards areas that are expressly disallowed in the sticky "http://photocamel.com/forum/ot-off-t...s-posters.html" posted at the top of this forum.

Please take a moment to read those guidelines before contributing. Otherwise we may even find that this little corner of the Camel is taken away from us, with the inevitable consequences of higher stress levels and an upsurge in counseling bills.

So I was reading a copy of Amateur Photographer the other day where someone mentioned that having your picture available to forums is a good idea as it makes it easier to relate to the photographer if you know what they look like. This in turn makes the comments a bit more relevant. I thought this was an interesting point of view but (as you can see from my avatar) I did not agree. But it really does not matter what I think so I must ask.....

Does it matter what I look like? Would it make it easier to know how ugly I really am?

Just got back on the boards after +- 2years. Reason being I didn't have a camera after selling up (moved countries, have kids etc etc). I still love my photography just didn't have much to offer (kid in a candy store with no money syndrome) in terms of images to share.

Anyways.... have a little camera now and played a little catch-up on the boards the last few days. Regarding photography and the great experience and friendliness of the members here on the Camel nothing has changed....... but, what I have noticed is the amount of indifferent "idiots" on some of the boards. They seem to just choose to try and replicate the rear end of a donkey. Someone posts a relevant question (c'mon we are all grown-up intelligent people..... or are we???) and then it's turned into a politically correct fight or some other pathetic argument regarding a misplaced word or two.

I myself would like to play with the "grown-ups" here on the Camel. I have an open mind regarding any posted image or comment, and I choose to look or not to look. If something offends me (takes alot) politically, visually or any other subject matter.... I move to something on another thread (this has never happened... but just saying "if" in case). If you need to be led by the hand in terms of what you choose, you are no more intelligent than my 6 year old son and your "wisdom" is not needed.

Get a life, a better attitude, or just disappear. Either choice is acceptable

What is going on? Why are threads just being deleted?

I was searching for the Fox news thread that was here yesterday. It seems the thread was deleted, but no notice or anything?

What was so horrible about that thread? It seems strange that the mods have to do this...we are all Adults after-all aren't we???? So why treat us like children?

Negative Balance on PayPal

This is really frustrating:
I've recently sold all of my Nikon gear: Nikon D200, lens, bag, filter, charger, etc.
I received the payment, and I shipped it via UPS Next Day Delivery.

Later on, the person files an "unauthorized payment," and files a dispute. PayPal wanted a receipt of the shipment. So, I faxed them the receipt I received from UPS. It had the tracking number, shipment ID, both of our addresses, etc.

In the end, I lose the dispute. I don't have any of Nikon gear with me, and I'm down ~$1000.
I've basically been screwed with.

I've contacted PayPal about this and made sure they used the shipment ID, and not the tracking number. (I don't know why it's the shipment ID; it says to use the shipment ID when tracking; the tracking number does not work; I even stated that when I faxed the receipt).
When the Customer Service rep entered the shipment ID, it does show that it was delivered.
Now, I'm just waiting for a reply as to what will happen.

This is ridiculous. I find it how PayPal sides with the buyer. What happened to seller protection?!

I currently have a negative balance on my PayPal account: around -$1000. If it was like $100, I would just fund it, but I don't have a spare $1000!

What happens when you have such a huge negative balance?

This is extremely frustrating. The reason I sold my gear was because I needed the money. Now I'm even screwed more!

CMA (Country Music Awards)

How many watched this awards show last night and wondered what kind of High School Hack Taylor Swift was on the opening number? And her other number wasn't much better. She can't sing except on the radio. Granted, her videos are good, but live she can't carry a note. Sang off key. I can do that.

And Entertainer of the Year? Come on. It all seemed like a con job as a counter-punch to what Kanye West did to the poor little bad singer.

George Strait was good, as usual. Brooks and Dunn were really good, singing with Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. Not sure why Brooks and Dunn are splitting up. The best "I sing Live like I do on the radio" performance was from Billy Currington (People are crazy).

Thoughts about the CMA show and what you saw?

As Washington reels from the news of 10.2 percent unemployment, the Center for Responsive Politics is out with a new report describing the wealth of members of Congress.

Among the highlights: Two-hundred-and-thirty-seven members of Congress are millionaires. That’s 44 percent of the body – compared to about 1 percent of Americans overall.

CRP says California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa is the richest lawmaker on Capitol Hill, with a net worth estimated at about $251 million. Next in line: Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), worth about $244.7 million; Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), worth about $214.5 million; Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), worth about $209.7 million; and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), worth about $208.8 million.

All told, at least seven lawmakers have net worths greater than $100 million, according to the Center’s 2008 figures.

“Many Americans probably have a sense that members of Congress aren’t hurting, even if their government salary alone is in the six figures, much more than most Americans make,” said CRP spokesman Dave Levinthal. “What we see through these figures is that many of them have riches well beyond that salary, supplemented with securities, stock holdings, property and other investments.”

The CRP numbers are somewhat rough estimates – lawmakers are required to report their financial information in broad ranges of figures, so it’s impossible to pin down their dollars with precision. The CRP uses the mid-point in the ranges to build its estimates.

Anyone else starting to think we don't have what it takes anymore to win the war on terrorism. We are too politically correct. WE are too afraid of being accused of "racial profiling" or the like. We are afraid to act on suspicion. The liberals will call that freedom, I'm not sure. I don't want to start a great debate, I'm just wondering if anyone can explain to me why this happened and why our President is warning us not to jump to conclusions.
Few things have iritated me as much as all of this. Very few. I feel more hopeless for this country than I ever have before.

I'm just saying, when they go to replace the psychiatrist position on the post, will they be accused of wrong doing when they hire Dr Joe Smith instead of Dr. Hussain Mohammed?

My prayers go out to the friends and families of the victims.

Here is one I came across the other day. Thought it worth sharing.

Three women, one engaged, one a mistress and one married 25 years, are having lunch and talking about their sex lives. They decide to try something and compare notes later. They all agree that they will wear black leather boots, black leather panties, black leather bras and a black leather mask and see how their lovers react.

A month later they get together again for lunch.

The engaged woman said she surprised her fiance by walking into the room while he was watching a football game. He was so turned on that he switched off the game and they made love all afternoon!
