According to overlays in a website, this is not too far off what they show.

I have been asked to shoot a contemporary family portrait in the style of studio's such as:
Studio22 - Belfast
Welcome to Studio22 : Contemporary Photography
Venture
Family Portrait Photography | Venture Portraits | Photo Studios Throughout the UK

I assume that the shoot is a bit of a laugh and everyone is having fun trying things out and jumping around etc.

My problem is the family i have to shoot has a nervous mum and a serious dad, who probably won't want "all that jumping and nonsense"

I'd be grateful is anyone could point me in the direction of similar photography website where i can get some idea's of poses that i can pull off with mr serious and perhaps some tips from anyone who does this type of shoot regularly?

These are just ceiling lights in my kitchen with me standing on a chair.
ANy tips for pulling off these shots with strobes as far as positioning? Just higher ?

I'm getting ready to set up a studio. And I've been reading and reading about light ratios. It seems to me that one almost has to be a math genius to figure them out. Is there any easy way, or do you have to sit with paper and calculate?

Maybe this is a really dumb question. I don't know, but your help would be greatly appreciated.
