SO my question is how to gain even lighting when the subjects are in close proximity. I took this shot of 3 sisters for some friends, I saw a similar layout in a magazine and wanted to try it. But what i ran into was being able to spread the light to all three faces and get a good depth effect. Using a reflector and SB900 i could get close to what i wanted, but there are still shadows i'd like to minimize. Any suggestions? (I also did some layer treatments in PS After - i put up both photos)

My settings were ISO 100 1/125 f16

I am looking for advice on a decent reflector holder. I have purchased a 40" Wescott 5 in 1 and am starting to really learn its possibilities. But am using my wife to hold it in front of my subjects. Of course this works fine but I would much rather have my wife beside me looking at the details of my subject (hair out of place, collar not exactly right, etc) while I am working on the technical aspects of the shots with the camera and lights.

The reason for asking advice isn't bacause I can't find a reflector holder but it seems like almost everyone I find has some really bad reviews. I know with the experience in this community I can get some good insight on a decent one to buy and not make the same mistakes as other have in the past just picking up any ol' one. I also understand it is just a reflector holder and reviews are not always 100% accurate.

Again here is the relfector I own any advice will be greatly appreciated as always.

I've just ordered a green muslin chroma-key 5x15, a muslin stand, two umbrella lights, and a flash-softbox.
I'm wanting to take model-like images of my wife against the green back-drop, and them remove "just her" and place her on a digital background.
Any tips? It's my first time. I've done this sort of thing in the past, but dealing with shadows, on my white (house) wall... trimming like mad crazy in photoshop (extracting). So I'm looking forward to getting better, and less time consuming results.

HELP!!! I can't afford all the best toys... I don't make money with it...
I just want some great (improved) modeling type shots of my wife.

We got our new ones today and I was thinking these could be excellent for making home made reflectors. Just attach something to the back to make them more stable and good to go.

But what matierials would be reccomended in making these? The white/silver/gold colored.

I want to ask a question that I am not even sure there is a exact answer to or not. Here goes. How do you decide what side you place your main/fill light for head shots?

Reason for the question is I recently did a local theaters head shot for the actors and actresses and decided to make the photos as consistent as possible. I placed the main, fill and hair light in approximately the same spot for all. The I posed them all the same to be consistent. But after printing them they all look good. But wondered what they would have looked liked if I choose the other side for the main. I assume the answer is it all depends on your model. But when trying to do what I did does it matter?

Thanks in advance.

God, I don't even know if I spelled 'Amateur' right...that's how wet behind the ears I am.

So, I know how to take pictures, how to pose and most importantly I LOVE to do it. So, I bought some decent monos (2) a light meter and a backdrop set up. I shoot with a Minolta Maxxum 5D.

Here's what I need to know:

I have no idea how to use the light meter. Silly me thought maybe it would come with some intructions.

Worse yet, I don't know how to set my lights or how to position them.

I'm not sure what info I need to provide or if anyone can even help me without seeing what I have going on.

This is the info on my monolights:
Power (Watt Seconds)	Each Monolight 600
Guide Number	252
Weight	Each Monolight 5-1/4 Lbs
Special Features	Modeling Lamp Proportional Output is the same as the Flashtube Output (on/off) . Audible Signal when Fully Recycled.
Color Tempatute	5800° K
Power Setting	Stepless Setting from Full Power to 1/2
Synch Voltage	6 volts

TMI? ha ha

I know in time I can figure this all out on my own but would love to take some Christmas portraits of my kids. I feel so silly being so green but guess I have to learn sometime!
