Last Sunday our historic Theatre Royal had their annual OPEN DAY when the public were invited for a free tour of the theatre.
Only recently Sandra and I sat in two of the best seats in the house for a performance of Miss Saigon and I was wishing then
that I could take pictures of the elegant decor. Well this was my big chance, "Carpediem!"
#1

The stage as viewed from the Upper Dress Circle.
No monopod - all images are shot with a handheld E3 with 14-42mm and IS is switched on.
#2

Wherever possible I took advantage of available camera rests such as pillars, railings or seats.
A crystal chandelier lights portraits of famous playwrights that decorate the ceiling.
#3

I don't know who the cherubic little guy with the trumpet represents but he looks right down into the orchestra pit!
#4

At the left side of the picture is one of the VIP boxes.
Visitors were allowed to wander unescorted at will anywhere in the theatre.
#5

Radio ABC FM-936 Technicians broadcast visitor interviews live across Australia.
I avoid the use of flash preferring long exposures to capture the atmosphere of the theatre lighting.

It has been a wonderful summer weekend, 25’-28’C ( 77’-82’F),
simply perfect for the annual Melton Mowbray Rodeo – it was almost worth the sunburn!
The event is perfectly sited at the base of a grassy hill that faces south from which spectators
can picnic with the sun at their backs as they watch the events unfold below.

Aside from the picturesque pub seen in the middle distance, Melton Mowbray is situated on the Midlands Highway
some 50 miles from Hobart, Tasmania and is no more than a name on the map and all of what you can see in the opening Pano.

There were all sorts of entertainments including buck jumping, cattle roping, wood chopping and sheep shearing.
Hopefully I have been able to capture some of the highlights to share with you. So, "Let the Games Begin!"

#1 and #3 were shot with the 14-42mm, wide - the rest with the 70-300mm at 300mm from the hilltop where those three figures stand.

I've been shooting Nikon for a while, but I recently sold all of my Nikon gear for personal reasons.
I'm planning to pick up a new camera. I was considering Canon, but I came across a couple of articles on the Internet about Micro Four-thirds. It sounds interesting, but I don't really know much about it.
I'm considering the Olympus Pen E-P1. I have also considered the Panasonic Lumix GF1. To me, they look just like a digital compact camera. I'm sure the photos will yield much better quality.
I can continue reading articles about these kinds of things, but I'm just curious as to what your experiences have been with micro four-thirds, especially if you came from Nikon or Canon.

I shoot photography as a hobby, not professionally. However, I do want great quality pictures.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.
