Default B-17 "Flying Fortress"

The plane was here in Kingman for the weekend doing tours and giving rides. Really incredible aircraft. The rides were a little too pricey for me but they seemed to be doing quite a few so hopefully they made some money for the Experimental Aircraft Association. The tour was called the EAA's B-17 Aluminum Overcast.

Some nice images captured. Not a glorious day it seemed, but you processed well. Yes, and incredible airplane and one to see and hear.

I like the gritty nature of the 4th one and the texture in the tarmac....

Great series! I'm especially fond of the third one. I like how the engine and wing of the foreground plane frames the one in the background.

Thank you Mr. Pickles and Cameron. The plane went to Lake Havasu City, AZ today. Not sure how long/far the tour is but certainly worth seeing.

During the "Wings Over Dallas " show last fall one could buy a ride in the B-17 "Texas Raiders". I don't remember the price tag, but I remember googling an inflation calculator and pay grades back in the war.

My quick look up indicated the ride was about equal to one weeks pay for a WWII technical sergeant serving aboard a B17. Considering what those guys did to earn that week's pay, it's pretty pricing indeed, though the cost of operation and maintenance per plane is doubtless astronomically high today vs then.

Thanks Bob. The price when the tour was here was Advance Pricing: $409.00 for an EAA Member and $449.00 for a non member. Pricing for walk up tickets was $435.00 EAA Member and $475 for a non member. Not sure how long the flights were. The weather was good the first day and really bad the rest of the time it was here.

Great photos and, yes, that's a lot of money.
