I am a member of CMA (Christian Motorcyclist Association) and our local chapter has been taking pics of our rides, events and community outreach. I have compiled them all and am trying to put together a video of all the pics.
Ok so here is the problem...some of our members gave me pics that were not good at all, they were really cloudy I do not want to offend anyone by not including there pics but also do not want to embarres them when others view there shots. What do I do? Also I have another question...I have enough pics for about 2 hours of viewing if each pic is shown for 5 sec. what would be an appropriate length of time for this video to run...I dont want anyone to be shorted but I also dont want anyone to get bored by the length of time it runs. All opinions are welcome and very much apreciated. __________________

Hello
my personal opinion only. 1- I think two hours of watching only photos is a bit long, try to break it by chapters of events or acitivies or a certain ocassion? 2- also can you mix short video clips as well to make it more interesting? 3- how about adding a sound track, be aware of copyrights! 4- get the photos to go into a selction process to reduce the numbers and also selction on quality i would say that these photos will not come up nice on the video/TV/Projector in the hall or what ever mean it will be used to deliver it to the public/community? But these are only my sugestions and hope you get a good resolution at the end and Happy New Year to you. I will be interested what oftware you will use to present this video? Regards |

so 38 minutes is not too bad much better than 120 minutes
![]() good idea to use light scribe for windows movie maker you can do transition efffects between photos, my personal feedback from my family and relatives who watch my humble videos sometimes they hate too much transtions and specially if its a repeat for the whole DVD so i try to make every 10th or so photo with a transition and maybe go down to 5. less stress on the eyes of the viewer we dvd makers never think of that and we think it's cool but the public is your Judge, maybe something to remeber for next year. excellent idea of scattering the photos of the memebrs across the DVD. you welcome happy ot help is there a web site or a link i can some of it? |

Consider creating collages so that more than one photo is on screen at once - this should help tell the story while shortening the overall time.
If you can animate the on/off of each photo within a collage it helps big time! |

5 Seconds??!? I don't ever put up a picture for that long even when I'm doing a wedding compilation. With shorter and shorter attention spans I say 1.5-2 seconds is enough per picture. These don't sound like photos that will be criticized with a professional eye, they're fun record shots. Put them to a nice piece of music -- christian rock I would imagine and let it go. I would be that very few people are willing to sit somewhere for 38 minutes never mind 2 hours to just look at a slideshow. Reminds me of "vacation photo" scenes in comedy movies.
You have 7-10 minutes. If you have/want to do the long version you'll have to break it up but I suggest not showing them on the same night ... one segment per night/meeting. One note -- if this is something that will be a large screen while people are mingling (and not sitting rapt with attention, then skip the music). As far as what to use, you can use Proshow (they have a web version that's free I think), and animoto (again free version available). |

I see your decisions have been made, but since this thread has been revived I'll toss in my 2 cents.
I think the length of a video slide show ought to depend A LOT on the audience. For a live viewing at a club meeting I'd say keep it around a fast paced 15 minutes. 5 seconds seems like a LONG time to dwell on each and every image. Maybe rare ones with a story to tell could be held that long, but for most pics the people and activities can be recognized in milliseconds. Choose music that has slow and fast parts and use those to time theme sequences that could be either random or maybe similar photos like from one riding event. If you are supplying a disc then make it easy for the viewer to pause and or replay images he wants to view longer. Use the best pics for your entertaining club show and put the leftovers on the disk where they can be seen. If overall your show gets praised then I doubt there will be complaints especially if you also in addition provide the complete collection on the disk. Mark We are challenged these days to compete with the high quality TV programming we are used to seeing. Look at it for tips on timing and pacing. |

I really agree that five seconds a piece is too long. I edited video for a lot of years and thought one of the worst things you can do is to have shot after shot after shot all running five seconds. People first sense the rhythm and start to get bored. Break it up, some 1, some 2, rarely 5, but keep it changing and use the beat of the music to help you decide how long and how many

as I am fast aproaching the new video for thhis year I really appreciate all the comments I have received thus far. The last one went over very well with all that were involved. I did as one suggestion and mixed it up. went with the flow of the music per say.
again thank you all __________________
