I'm all PC, but I need to know how Mac guys do this for I'll be informed for an article I've written.
The question is regarding network folders. On a PC, I can create a network folder (location), by simply right clicking in the My Computer folder, selecting Add Network Location, then typing in ftp://ftp.mywebsite.com. (these are Vista instructions, there's more to it when using XP, the the steps are pretty much the same). The wizard will ask for a name and password, then Bam...I'm in. I can work in the website folders just like folders on my computer. But how do you Mac guys do this same thing? __________________

It is possible to connect to an FTP server, that is what you are doing, on OS X and do just about everything one has the "permissions" to do. Personally I use an FTP client though. On OS X, I use Cyberduck and on the PC it is Filezilla.
For the Finder, under OS X, I use Connect to Server. My username and password are stored in the OS X keychain. If it is not there, the user will be prompted to enter these. Having just done this, I find I cannot create folders but I could move files around. Must be a permission thing on my website. Does this help any? |

Tony,
Thank you, but it's not exactly what I was looking for. I know you can connect to a site using an FTP program using a Mac. I was just curious as to whether you can do the same thing using just the OS and what the steps are. |

Mark, I did answer sort of. It is possible to connect to the FTP using nothing but OS X's Finder. But for some reason I was not able to create new folders. Now if that is a OS X, Finder issues or a setting/permission on my server, I don't know.
Sorry. __________________
