'Remarkable', is all I'm going to say to avoid stronger vernacular. Now how about a high noon showdown with Snow Leopard to establish once and for all who the real badass OS in da hood is. Can't wait. __________________

I realize you're baiting, but this testing was done with the 32 bit versions of Vista and Windows 7. I wonder how the 64 bit versions perform? Seen anything on that?

Tom's hardware has a full benchmarking of Windows 7 with comparisons to Vista SP1. Both OS versions were 64 bit Ultimate.

I went from Vista 32bit, to Windows 7 64 bit. I've seen a drastic difference and am pleased with the performance that I'm getting from this machine I built. Core Duo 3.0, 8 GB 1066Mhz RAM, on an Asus Motherboard. No benchmarks to tout, just what I'm seeing.

You mean, whether WIndows 7 will lose data like SL?
Snow Leopard users have been reporting lost data due to a bug in the OS. "We are aware of the issue..." an Apple representative said in a prepared statement Monday. ![]() |

Oh you would see a dramatic performance increase, I also saw an increase in speed over 32-bit and 64-bit Vista Ultimate |

That cinebench numbers look very funny to me. I was just running that test and from what I see they are comparing the gain from multicore rendering to single core renderinng on the same machine. If thats's true then you cannot compare that numbers at all to other machines.

"Real world" cinebench Mac 10.6 (snow leo) vs. Win 7. Win 7 beats Snow Leo in that category.
Mac OSX is better in some other results than Win 7 though. Those editors of mags just pick whatever benchmark they like to "confirm" their headlines. Headlines sell ... I think one should not believe all that benchmarking crap without asking questions on how the test was done and how those test actually work ... As a real worl test side by side showed that my Win 7 PC opened any CS4 application faster than the newest shiniest Macbook Pro. You can of course choose to believe that or not . |

Hello
I'm in the market for a new computer and after reding some things about windows 7, I am not sure if elements 7 will run on windows 7. Will elements run on the 64 bit windows 7 ??Any help with this question would make me a happy person. I have been holding off on the purchase untill I can find some answers on the subject. I really don't want to upgrade to elements 8 because I had elements 5 and then went to 7 and I'm getting sick of paying adobe another $ 100 every time they add another feature or two. Thanks for any help you guys can offer Rich ps I know this might not be the place to post this but by reading the posts above it seems like you guys know something about computers. |

According to this dicsussion it works (Elements 7 on Win7):
Adobe Forums: Elements 7 and Windows version 7 So far I am having absolutely no trouble to run any application on Win 64 bit. Only Canon gave me trouble by not supplying 64 bit drivers for my scanner but its replaced anyway. |

It isn't software that is the issue with 64bit...it's drivers for existing hardware. There are still a few plugins for CS4 that I like that haven't produced a 64 bit mode yet, but still run on the 32 bit version of CS4. Elements 7 will run on Windows 7, if only as a 32 bit app. It's seamless, so you don't really notice.

Thanks for the help. It seems like every computer I looked at has the 64 bit windows 7 software installed. I have'nt seen any that says 32 bit. Is this something that you can switch back and forth between 32 bit and 64
I sure wish I knew more about computers but at my age I don't want to go back to school.Rich |

SPector....go ahead and get the 64 bit....you can run 32 bit software on a 64 bit machine, but not the other way around. You don't have to do anything, as the operating system does it seamlessly without you doing anything special. The 64bit will allow you to access more memory and be faster.

I'm not sure how to interpret those benchmarks, but here's what my own subjective testing has revealed over the past few months: XP may be marginally faster than Windows 7 in some respect, but the usability improvements in 7 (easy network connectivity, much improved Start menu, many other small improvements) make sticking with XP impossible for me. In some ways, XP simply does not work properly. Networking is one way I can think of instantly. Sometimes browsing shares on a local network takes forever in the "discovery" phase. Just unacceptable, really. There were some things that were broken in XP that were fixed in both Vista and Win7. It's too bad these issues were not fixed in XP. If they had been, I might have at least one machine dedicated to it.
