Default new monitor needed

Hello all. I have to replace my old gateway 2100 series 21" lcd monitor. I came accross the LG W2453V-PF Black 24". Here is the newegg page about the monitor. I would like to know how this monitor would be for photo editing and monitor calibration (I use the spyder3 elite. Any info would be appreciated greatly as I do not know much about monitors. Keep in mind that I only have 300.00 or so to spend as well.

For photo editing you want something more like this. I don't have this monitor so I can't vouch for it, just an example of what to look for and is in your price range. Look for things like PVA or IPS panels, 178 degree viewing angles. TN panels and fast response times (<5ms) are great for gaming but not photo editing, where you need color accuracy.
I just bought this one to go with a new computer I am building. It is more than your budget but very reasonable for an IPS monitor.

Have you tried this monitor yet? I have been thinking about it as well but read some reviews that there is a color shift across the panel. You are right, it is very reasonably priced for a 24" IPS panel.

I am moving from 24" iMac to a PC and I am struggling to find a decent sized monitor that is as nice as the iMac. I was really ready to go with the Apple 24" LED Cinema Display. At $900, it's pretty price, but I really love the iMac display. Don't think the new 24" Cinema display is compatible with the PC though.

Would love to hear your opinion of the HP.

Sorry for the long delay, I've been too preoccupied with getting the new machine put together. I got the monitor hooked up to the old HP machine today. It is sweet! This is the first LCD I have owned but it is so much nicer than the typical TN units you see for sale at the stores.
Way more real estate than the old 19" CRT I've been using!
It is a matte screen if that is a concern and does need calibration. It is way too bright out of the box. I don't have a calibration tool but using the settings I found on the review at TFT Central got it very close to what the CRT looked like.
The settings are: Brightness = 17, Contrast = 65, RGB, 251/235/242

The monitor I plan to buy is the Dell 2209WA DELL UltraSharp 2209WA 22-inch Black Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor : Dell Computer Monitors, Flat Screens & LCDs | Dell Buying from Dell it is right on your price limit, but I found the same monitor on EBAY with cash back getting the final cost to $245.00. I think Dell makes a 24" version, but didn't take the time to research. If they do the price may be over your budget. Good Luck.
