Default NIK software

I'm looking seriously at Viveza right now, but wondered if anyone was using any of the NIK products and what you think about them?

Nik Dfine is pretty good. I posted some images, including a side by side comparison of an ISO 12800 image with and without Dfine here.

I've been playing with the trial version. It works great, but I'm looking at some of their other software as well. I can't afford to buy it all at once.

There are probably many reason's you are interested in this, but if it's mainly color and contrast control, look here. FM Software
The velvia vision may do most of what you want and free up some coin for the other NIK products that have caught your eye.

Hey Harry, I just got it and got a PPA discount of 15%. Came out to $127.+. Haven't had a chance to play with it. You can get the code from the PPA site.

Better still, use the code DZISER and get 25% off.

I use Viveza, Silver Efex Pro and Color Efex Pro 3 from Nik. All are excellent. Sometimes Nik has a special on bundles but am not aware of any current ones.

I don't have any samples handy but I use it for selective exposure adjustments and saturation adjustments mostly. Let's say you shot a photo of a house interior and balanced the color to the interior and everything looks great except the window which has a blue cast because of the temperature differential between tungsten and daylight. you can select the window and pull the blue saturation down quickly to adjust it. Viveza gives you a control point that is circular for the adjustment. If your area is odd shaped, just make the selection larger than the window and "paint in" the correction.

Download the free trial and give it a shot. Beware - you'll likely buy it!

EDIT: Just received this from Nik. New version about to come out...

I hesitated for a long time before getting Color Efex 3.0, even after the trial. It seemed so expensive. I finally broke down (got broke?) and bought it. It has been great. I use NX2 and it has added considerable versatility to what I can do. I heartily recommend it.

I've got on one software and nik software. They are both great. I wouldn't hesitate recommending to anyone. Viveza is a must have as well.
