Lightroom 1.2 can't open CR2 from 40D?

I'm trying to open the CR2 files from my Canon 40D with LR 1.2 and keep getting a "Files appear to be unsupported or damaged." message. I ran some searches and confirm that LR 1.2 does support raw files from the Canon 40D. The raw files are OK as I've been using DPP, and CS3 (after installing the Camera Raw plugin.)

Do you guys have any pointers other than upgrading LR?

Tom, it supports the 40D provided you have Camera Raw 4.2. If not you can download it here:

Thanks for the quick response, Mcbit. I downloaded Camera Raw 4.2 earlier but was concerned that it may screw up CS3 which is working. Should I be?

BTW - I see that you're no longer afloat and must assume that you are on higher ground.

Are you sure you installed 1.2? It should support the 40D without upgrading the camera raw (you can't upgrade just the ACR with LR). In LR, click Help / About to verify.

All that I can say to that is that my CS3 has v4.6 and LR2 has v4.5

Steve is correct, I misread the article which actually states that upgrades to LR1.2 and CR 4.2 included support for the 40D

Yah, it's LR 1.2, but I just checked again to humor you. I have had it installed a long time ago but I'm just now getting to try it out with RAW files.

Yes, I do have the raw 4.6 plugin for CS3 and it's working fine.

Full. I shoot full RAW + large JPG.

Doesn't make any sense. If you want to send me one that doesn't work via yousendit.com, I'll try it in LR 2.5 just to confirm the latest version will open it.

It's not just one file, Steve. I've tried an entire batch with LR and no dice. All of them open fine with DPP as well as CS3 so I have no doubt LR 2.5 will open just fine. I can certainly send one for you to confirm?

I unzip the Camera_Raw_4_2.zip file just to see and all it is is the .8bi file which I already have in the CS3 plugin folder earlier.

Do you think it's worth uninstalling LR 1.2 and reinstalling it?

It's worth a shot. I wonder if the RAW format changed slightly with one of the firmware updates that Adobe didn't go back and update in 1.2?

Why don't you get the free update to 1.4.1 and try that?

...that's what I was thinking too , and IIRC 1.4.1 ran a lot smoother than 1.2 anyway...

During the import phase, after it brings up the file handling options window. I tried clicking on the Show Preview window and it doesn't display anything either.
