Anyone using Rebit backup appliance or software? www.rebit.com/
It looks like it might be a good way to backup files without too much hassle. It still leaves you with having to come up with an offsite backup in case of fire, theft, etc., but would provide a relatively easy backup for file replacement in case of a hard drive crash. Sing141 __________________

What's different about this? You could use any external drive combined w/ the backup software inwindows.

And since you asked: From reading about it, one difference between Rebit and Windows backup is that it is a constant backup of the hard drives on your computer. Where Windows Backup and most others are scheduled and you pick the files you want to backup, Rebit bacls up the whole hard drive and files as they are changed or added. One requirement is that the Ribit hard drive (which can be an external hard drive you already own) needs to be larger than the sum of the hard drives on your computer. They claim it works in such a way as to not slow down any software processes you are running. It backs up your whole disk and should your disk crash (mechanical problems I assume) you could replace the bad hard drive with a new one, copy the Rebit backup of your original hard drive to the new hard drive and go to work as if your origiinal hard drive had not crashed. Of course if it is a Windows caused crash that wouldn't work and you would have to reload windows and your software but you would still have all your other files backed up on Rebit. As you would using Windows Backup. |
