Canon needs to get on the stick and release their 64 bit, but they also need to really work on the interface and features. DXO is still 32, but they still use the Quad processor efectively whereas with the Macbook Pro it does not seem to use the dual processer. So you have one Macbook Pro owner that is not impressed, expecially when looking below the surface. I have a whole litanly of undesiberable operations that I won't list here. If the manufactures of laptops get around to making a decent lightweight laptop under 5 Lbs for us hikers I'll dump this Macbook Pro like a shot.

Adobe doesn't have a MAC 64 bit version of Photoshop. Even thought they were aware that Mac was using Cocoa for 64 bit they wrote CS4 in Carbon.

My Laptop was doing fine for CS2, and then I saw that the Upgrade for CS4 is coming to an end supposedly by the end of September. Sooooo, I did it. I just upgraded my CS2 to CS4 yesterday and have been playing around and watching the Vids and Podcasts over on Youtube.

I am running CS4 in 64bit and it screams. I now have to learn how to do evrything over again on what I was doing before. Somethings are slightly different and then there are advantages on doing some of those things in a newer faster way.

Doesn't this learning curve ever end Hahahahahahahaha

I just voted for 64bit. Was my turn eventually so I did it because of CS4 64bit. I also really like what they've done to Bridge.

HMMMM. on my new HP laptop running Vista 64 bit Adobe doesn't even have a streaming video that will run Utube on a 64 bit Explorer browser yet. Vista is now about obsolete with 7 coming soon (been running a beta version for months) on one PC but the software is lagging.....That and the fact I don't feel like buying a new multipurpose printer because there are no drivers for my current Epson. There is no reason that they can't offer a conversion program like Office 2003 docs to docx on Office 2007 so your 32 bit programs will ALL run. Forcing the public to upgrade all of their ancillary items is ludicrous.

I agreee sidebyte, I am forced to run my Firefox and IE in 32 bite so I can watch those videos. Seems kind of strange, that Vista has been out for a while now and is also awaiting its demise and they still don't have those plug ins for it to run videos in 64 bit. If they took so long for this, whats going to happen in the new version

I'm using XP x64 and find as mentioned earlier that you can run x32 programs on it.
I have both x64 & x32 versions of CS4 loaded and run LRv2.4 and Nikon Capture NX2.2.2 as x32 bit applications.

Having used UNIX (Solaris) for the last 10 years I feel that 64 bit data transfer has a big advantage in speed over 32 bit applications when available..

Indeed! And thos who posted they run a 64-bit system by choice, what 64-bit applications do they actually use to take advantage of it? Because afaik there are pitifully few 64-bit applications around. And why has Adobe still not found it necessary to release a 64-bit version of CS4, their flagship product, for MacOSX, their core Photoshop market? Doesn't that tell you something? In fact right now I'm awar of only one (photo)graphical 64-bit application for MacOSX (there's a Windows version too): Helicon Focus (Image editing software: Helicon Focus), with which you can creat photos with exactly the desired Depth-of-Field.

So what other (photo)graphical 64-bit applications are there out there? What are we really talking about here?

Photoshop CS4, Lightroom are 64 bit at least under windows.

Also do not go only by single applications. If you runnning a lot of applications side by side (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, LR, Illustrator, and other stuff) you want as much RAM as possible for smooth working (more than 4 GB).

I have a demo system with two MS Server 2003 servers running side by side with business applications on it and I wish I could put 8GB in my notebook.

For others it might be total overkill though.

If you plan on using your camera tethered to a computer be sure that a 64 bit driver is available. I think Canon has a 32 bit driver only. Perhaps in the future they will offer a 64.
