Tried few times, including rebooting the PC many times, but nothing works. When I put the card in camera the camera says "can not playback image" for the few images taken. Also, after deleting some corrupted images then turning the camera off & on those images are still there. Tried another card and the PC recognized it immediately.
The card is a Sandisk Extreme III 32 GB Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. __________________

Hey, what's up Steve.
Thought about that but, correct me if I'm wrong, that the card should be read/recognized first before attempting to recover the photos. Besides, out of 1,100 images only about 10 are corrupted, which is ok not to recover. |

the card may not be recognised in your camera...but is it recognised in your computer? The recovery software will bring back all images that are not writen over. Then you will need to reformat the disk in camera after you have downloaded.

I don't know the first thing about CF card failure, just shooting in the dark. Oh I do know about card issues. Yesterday in the middle of a race my son brought me a bottle of water and a fresh battery for the camera. He did a head smack and said he forgot to bring a card to swap. I sat the water down and out of sheer stupid habit formated the card with about 200 shots on it. My leg and my butt still hurt from kicking myself. Sorry I wasn't any help with your deal though. |

Steve, same thing applies...as long as you didn't record over them...you can still recover the images you deleted with the image recovery software.

I formatted the card. Do you mean I could have pulled those images back after doing that? Now the other side of my arse and other leg are going to hurt. |

you are going to need some form of support while kicking yourself in both sides at once. You still may be able to recover some of the images if you did not fill the card. The images are still there until you write over them

Oh great!
Well the race is in the can and online already. I will remember this conversation for when I loose my mind again, as its sure to happen. BACK TO THE OP: Is this the first time you've used this card? There is no chance that its somehow incompatible with your camera? Dumber question, have you tried plugging the camera into the PC rather than using a card reader? |

Great news! Couldn't sleep last night because of the issue. Luckily, I didn't delete or record over the existing photos. |

That's the first thing that came to mind. Will try it if everything fails. Also, there is a reader on the monitor (which is what I use) and another on the PC itself. Both failed. |

Thank you Stercus Vultus and Max.
Solved the problem...for the most part. This is what happened: Tried RescuePro but it took forever to check 1% so I canceled the operation, that's when I tried ZB and failed. Updated ZB to the latest version and got the same message that the software is not compatible with the camera. My heart sunk to my stomach at this point, almost wanted to cry In a moment of despariration I thought why not check (XP's) File Manager. To my delight there was an icon for Canon EOS 1DsIII, and to the right there were icons of photos. My spirit shot up to the roof Selected all of them and copied to the external HD. The semi bad news is it only copied ~ 964 images out of ~ 1,100. Not bad at all, especially that I've already converted about 15 of them w/o any hiccup. Will work on the remaining 140 or so at another time. |
