New oS in the making by Google

Big news yesterday and since nobody has posted it yet:

Google is working on a new OS- read her:

You do realize that Google's actions continue to put people out of work and drive wages down while inflation continues to pound world markets. Maybe you don't.

It's tough for me to get excited about vaporware. In a way, these announcements from Google about new products "in the future" are getting ridiculous. Everyone goes ga-ga over the potential. No one has even used this new OS.

It is aimed for heavy web users, and nothing else, except for word processing etc....no game would run

I feel the same way. Even storage supposed to be online. I need offline tools. And I need feature loaden editors.

Their browser was already not very succesful with only 1-2 % marketshare with such hype around it (at least so far).

Google is NOT going to launch a new OS! Google announced they intend to launch a special web browser through which users can make use of Google's online apps. Via the web! I.o.w.: if you use it you will have NO apps on your computer, nor the files you create with them!

I will NOT have a third party on the other side of the world storing MY files, or totally rely on THEIR apps for creating, reading and editing them. It would make Google a treasure trove for the NSA and the FBI. Count on the government to lean very hard on Google to get access to that data, by hook or by crook. It would be too good an opportunity for them to pass up.

And if you have no internet access you are fucked anyway.

That's pure marketing-talk, felix. And you seem to be falling for it.
When they say they "attempt to re-think what operating systems should be" it means they're trying to make you think their new browser IS an 'operating system' of sorts. While it clearly is not.
Classical Doublespeak. And because of that extremely suspicious!

Well, what I am reading is that they are pairing the browser together with some sort of Linux kernel. So you might be right that they are not exactly creating an entire new OS.

It's not what he tells you, but what he doesn't tell you that's important, felix!

You will be totally dependent on Google and the internet for your data security! If Google screws up, you lose your files. If Google caves to pressure, your files will be compromised. Google can blackmail you into paying or doing anything or you lose access to your data! If your neighbor's data (at Google) gets infected, yours is automatically too.

It is the old lock-in game.

So it is very stupid to put all your eggs in one, untrustworthy third-party basket.
