Default Re: Buying Mac after 25 yrs PC. What Programs

Hi Glenn,

I've used both, so here is my take.

If it is not broke, don't fix it. If Windows meets your needs, and PE-7 fufills you photographic needs, why switch. Until, and if, something changes, don't look to change.

For me something did change and thus I switched from Windows to OS X for my home stuff. By day I program Windows web applications.

$3K is a lot of money to spend, especially if you are not sure of the decision.

Good luck with your decision.

Take care,

PE-7 does everything I want to do and I know it. The last time I looked at LR, it didn't have some of the PS tools that I wanted and that was about a year ago, so I don't remember which ones.
Every morning I wake up , I've changed my mind. I'm asking myself, why spend $3,000 dollars for something I MAY not like. As I stated, been with PC for a long time and know how to work it and have not really had any problems with it.
I may get a cheap Mac and if I don't like it, give it to one of my grandkids.
Thanks for your input.

Glenn

I am going to upgrade one of my laptops late this year, or early next.

For a lark, I just "built" two laptops to the same spec.

One Mac and one PC at Dell, who I have done a lot of business with over the last six or so years.

The Mac was close to $900 less expensive than the Dell PC.

If that holds true, then I will be getting a MacBook Pro and a 24 inch monitor for about the same as the Dell PC.

I can run my PC software side by side with the Mac stuff, so in effect will only have to by PhotoShop.

I run a Dell server at work so I need to find out if I can network the Mac, but it is not a deal breaker as the laptop is mostly for home and photography.

Why B&H? Apple has a few deals once in a while.. Do you have any kids in school?
They might have a program for you. 

I did it!!
I called B&H this morning and ordered a 13.3" Macbook Pro with 500GB hard drive, 4 gig Memory.
They are giving me a program for free called "parallel" that will run windows XP at the same time as the Mac os. I also ordered LR2, win XP and 3 yr customer care.
It will be here in two days.
Someone ask why order a Mac from B&H. They were about $100 cheaper and I have a account with them.
Over the years, everything I ordered from B & H and Adorama have showed up when they said it would and in the condition as advertised.
