Cheap Ebay CS3 or stay with PSE6?

Gday, I have been looking on Ebay (Australia) and have seen somebody selling Photoshop CS3 for $130 aus Buy it now and cant help but be tempted by this considering that PSE7 just a few items below is about $150 aus. I was just about to do the buy it now when I decided to check the camel and saw this post.

Now I do not know if I should give it a try or not. The ad does say new sealed in box etc, the seller has 45 Items sold and a feedback rating of 100%. In the detailed feedback it all seems to be for CS3 and everybody is very happy and no mention of anything dodgy.

HELP I only have PSE6 and do really want to upgrade, but also want to keep everything legal.

Not sure how easy it is to get there, but just get PSE7 from a store. That way there isnt a license issue. If you have 6, cant you get a cheaper upgrade?

If it's a copy used to upgrade to CS 4, you won't get a legitimate license. I'd not buy it unless you can return it and get a full refund if you find any issues with the licensing.

Some of these 'deal's are outright counterfeits. It's even possible that the vendor isn't aware of it.

Thanks for your help so far. I have just finished a live chat (with a real person) on ebay and they said I am covered by paypal if it is a pirate / stolen copy etc. The ad does say it is a full version for windows new and sealed. Since the seller has a few available and has sold it in the past to what seems to be good reviews I'm not sure what to do, It finishes in about 17hours. How can I find out what CS3 should be going for at the moment - or has anybody seen it lately in a shop or online?

I forgot to mention that I cannot even remember if I have registered PSE6 anyway so I don't know if I could update.

does anybody know what the differences are between PSE6 and PSE7?. I imagine CS3 is still WAAY ahead and I would love to be able to organise the different sets of layers in folders like CS3 and create layer masks etc sooo much easier than in PSE6.

That sounds right. BTW, I once bought an iPod which was 100% ok except it was a pirate. The seller said it was a fair deal because it worked 100% OK but I said I don't deal in counterfeit goods. PayPal backed ME and I got my money back.

So I'd say you seem safe after all.

As to value, I think the price is right when you compare to the less capable Elements plus since you have a legit license, you can upgrade to CS X in the future.

Well I bought It, 8 hours later got emails from ebay and paypal to say they had pulled the ads and I should take action with the seller. Now I need to wait for the seller to email me within 10 days before I take further action. Result $140.15 down, wasted time, waiting longer and more wated time to get my money back. Lesson learnt Prob not, I'll give it another go and be a bit more cautious this time. The seller must have faked the feedback - everyone beware, I should have taken more notice of the link in my original post .
