AVG 8.5 - PhotoCamel

Upgraded to AVG 8.5 and my PC became very sluggish. Did anybody have the same experience. I'm thinking of replacing it, what do you suggest (free or purchase).

A broader question...do we really need an anti-virus software. In all my years in the internet I only got a virus once, but it was so harmless that you may not even call it a virus. It was like a bad joke or something.

What do the experts think.

If you don't think you need one, go without. No virus software on your system means it is still free, and it will run faster. Go ahead, give it a try.

That said, 8.5 isn't slower for me...unless it is running a scan.

I run 8.5 and have seen no slow down.

I have had a virus compliments of my son's download. I watched as the lines kept printing out, "do you want to keep this program or that program?" It would then answer itself NO. Then I unplugged. Wiped out most of my hard drive in a minutes time. Would not want to see that happen again.
