Question .
If you were to upgrade from CS2 , why not opt for the newer/better version in CS4 ??

Unless it's a superb deal, I'd opt to go with an upgrade to CS4.

CS4 has such an improved ACR that it's well worth the upgrade cost, especially from CS2

i use the cannon DPP for raw processing anyway....

just wondering what's good about CS3 over CS2.
as a practice, if i have no GOOD reason to upgrade things, i don't

it's much cheaper being a few versions behind.

Sounds like you have your answer. I'm still at CS2 also, but hardly ever use it. I use mostly Lightroom now.

no, everyone actually went completely around my question.

my question was: What are the benefits of CS3 over CS2?

I was told to upgrade to CS4, or stay @ CS2....i'm not sure how those replies even remotely touch my question.

So, again, why is CS3 better than CS2? -except for the fact that it's a later version?
What will CS3 do better over CS2?

I have both CS4 and CS3 (one on laptops). There is a real nice improvement with CS3 over CS2 and if you get a good price, go for it. There certainly is an improvement of ACR in CS4, but it all depends on the money. If you've got a good deal with CS3, I'd say go for it. It all depends on the money. I'm not sure it's worth $100 more, if that is any guide.

The biggest advantage for me was that on my machine it was not such a resource hog and worked faster and smoother than CS2.

This guy gives a pretty good run down (5 pages worth) on the improved and new features of CS3 compared to CS2.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Review - Software Reviews - TrustedReviews

Google is amazing if one would just use it.
