Default Help!!

Ok, here's the situation. I burn a CD of jpegs - sometimes close to a hundred of them, high resolution for printing. It can take up a lot of the CD space, but not all of it. I'm using the win xp in house burn/copy feature from a the folder on the desktop to a CD-R. No problems. I then use the "make compatible" feature. No problems. I test it out on another win xp machine AND a Mac...no problems. But, when it goes into some Win Vista machine, the jpeg folder is empty, but the properties shows couple hundred megabytes of stuff, which of course are the jpegs. I've done some googling and have found no real understanding or fix...At this point, I'm thinking it's not so much Win Vista, but the media player, in some cases a DVD-RW which is not showing the CD-R jpegs....??

Any thoughts on this? Any suggestions or pointers? It would be nice to know that the burned images on a CD-R could play on just about any modern computer. I figured, if it plays on a Mac and an Windows, it's compatabile for 99% of users...but, maybe not..maybe there are other concerns to work around....Anyway, your input is appreciated. Thanks -Ken

DVD-RW you say? Do you mean the media or the Drive is a DVD-RW? RW's are sometimes iffy, in that they may use a compression that only the host machine will see. But seeing as you used the in-house burning software, which will not burn to a DVD-RW, I'm thinking it may just have been a bad burn? Try it on an XP machine and see if it comes up? Try it on a Mac and/or another Vista box and see if it shows up, if not then you have a bad burn. If it shows up, it maybe the DVD drive in the vista machine. Also, try F5 to refresh the view. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the input. The drive is a DVD-RW, but I think it's also a multi drive. It worked fine on a standard win xp, and a mac...so, I don't think it was a bad burn; I think it's something about the DVD drive in vista, at least some of them, not recognizing something in the CD. A friend recommended cdburnxp, a free cd burning program, rather than the in house win copy/burn process and i'll probably give that a try.

that often is the case , perhaps that the visdta drive needs a new firmware or have you checked what it can read?

just go to Vista key > Settings > System > Device tab > dvd drive : name (brand) and type > write that in a piece of paper than google it ..

Thanks for the input everyone; it appears that the simple burn program (really just a copy program) inbuilt in win xp,even using the make compatible when finished, isn't sufficient. So, downloading the free cdburnxp program did the job. Now the disks can be read in Vista.

I had something similar just happen to me, I was giving a friend who was backing me up for a shoot, his pics on a DVD. I used Nero to burn the DVD on a DVD+R with the archival layer on the label side. He took it home and the disc was empty. He runs Vista at home. So then I did a new burn with Nero on the same media and this time it worked. Computers are funny, aren't they?
