About a year ago I bought an HP Pavillion 8200 series computer. It has 3 gigs of RAM and 500Gigs of storage. It came with Windows Vista. I ran Photoshop Elements 6 on my old computer that had less then one gig of RAM and it worked flawlessly but on the new computer every time I make the thumbnails in the organizer big enough to see, the program crashes. I have gone back and forth between Adobe and HP with no results and I am ready to give up and get a new computer. I want to work with CS4 or Lightroom before too long and my thinking is that if this machine won't run Elements 6 without grief it sure wont run CS4. So, what kind of computer do I get that will run these programs without trouble?

What processor is your system running and how many programs do have running in the background? I think you've got other issues going on there. |

Agree with 40043mo here - this sounds a bit fishy. Until a few weeks ago, my home computer was a 3-year old Pentium 4 with 2GB of RAM, and ran CS3 and LR 1.4 just fine. A little slowly, but fine. Sounds to me like the age of your computer is not your problem.

You might want to run some clean-up software and such on your computer... I run Lightroom and CS3 on my computer with a Athlon 64 3200+ with 2gb of RAM and 160gb HDD without any problems... I also have Vista Ultimate 32 on this computer as well... I'm not sure what your problem would be, but I dont think its your hardware...

Now seriously....
What OS was your old computer? Perhaps Vista is the problem....it does use more resources, although I would be surprised that it is using most of what you listed. How do other programs work? Faster...slower? have you tried uninstalling and re-installing your Elements? |

I have Photoshop 6 and it works with no problem on Vista.
The computer is most likely not the problem as it has 3gb ram and plenty of room, so maybe do a re-instal like OdzBodkinz says? That could be the issue as well. |
