Default computer registry cleaner

I hear that this type of software is a good idea to keep one's computer running quickly and smoothly. Would anyone care to share their experience/advise on this?

TIA,
Dan

I would say it all depends. Are you having problems with your computer running slow? IF you don't know what your doing, you could wipe out registry keys that your system needs to run things with. Be sure to back up the registry before you do a cleaning.

Once in a while I do a general cleaning of cache files, cookies, etc. with a free utility called CCleaner. It does have a registry cleaner included and it has worked ok for me.

You can find great tips on this type of stuff in sites like Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done

Get Registry Mechanic. If you want to go with a free one, CCleaner is pretty good.

I use Registry Booster from UniBlue and find that it works very well. It cost about $20 or so and was worth that and more. You can download it for free and do a scan of your PC. On my first run (on my new work computer that was giving me grief (extremely slow response to changing directories in Windows XP explorer, slowness launching apps, slowness using apps, etc), it identified over 1700 registry errors. It will clean the first 15 problems for free. Beyond that, you need to register the product. You will then get an immediate email with the activation code.

Highly Recommended!

Does one need to be an IT expert to clean the registry by using CCleaner, for example, or an average person can do it him/her self.

Thanks

I use Ace Utilities from Registry Cleaner and Disk Cleaner Utilities.

It costs but is well worth it in my experience.

I've only ever used the Microsoft one, with good results. Do a search at microsoft.com for "regclean.exe"
