Who's using Firefox? I've been hearing how great it is, so I installed it. Maybe it's a learning curve, but I see things I don't like.
For instance, I was used to pressing Alt-S on this site to save posts. When I do that in Firefox, the History menu drops down. Yuck. I also find the scrolling not as smooth as with IE. And the bookmarks I imported are a mess. What's so great about Firefox? __________________

I use Firefox all the time. Much better than IE in my opinion (but I've never tried the Alt-S). Why I like it? Let me count the ways...
Blocks ads Displays color managed images correctly, i.e. supports aRGB Tabbed surfing (IE finally added this) Can bypass right click disabling Web pages load faster (maybe IE caught up? I haven't used it for 2 versions now.) Tons of add-ons for customization You can zoom in on web pages with ctrl and scroll the mouse wheel, and it remembers the setting for that webpage Password manager (IE remembers passwords, but you can go in Firefox and see what the password is) I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting. |

I use Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. They all have strengths and weaknesses. I seem to be able to keep more windows open using three different browsers than if I had a boatload of windows open in just one browser.

FireFox is the best browser on Earth! You just need to customize it to your liking. IE on the other hand is a "bug catcher's net" - the worst browser ever made and forcibly attached to Windows (unless you make your own windows with Nlite).
I'm waiting for FireFox to make an OS ![]() Besides FireFox being customizable, there are about a billion plugins available for it. Everything you can think of like batch download, adblocker, ftp, ect. Plugins make FireFox so versatile. Also try Opera web browser. It's pretty interesting. I would sooner use a Mac than internet explorer! (controversial statement) Cheers, Craig |

Okay, I'll try to learn to love Firefox. Using Windows 7 a lot now, and IE8 has issues that I can't seem to get around.

I've been a huge Firefox supporter since its earliest days. I cannot live without it now. As you will hear from many people, it is the add-ons that make it great. I personally use AdBlock Plus, Roboform, Foxmarks (the #1 add-on IMO), Quick Drag, and IE Tab. For me, I despise having to use IE. It is the default install at my job, so I run Firefox off of a USB drive to make life liveable. Tried Chrome, and it was OK, but I am truly a Firefox man.

I'm a firefox user myself and I love it. Regarding the "Alt-S", if you look at the menu, you'll see that "Alt-S" is the shortcut for History. You just need to learn what the shortcut is in Firefox, if you are talking about saving pages, then "Ctrl-S" should take care of it.

Swampler, we need to come up with a method to benchmark that is compatible with multiple OS.
I'd like to bench my "skinny" XPSP3* against all these Vista style OS's. Also it's been my experience that XPSP1, XPSP2, and XPSP3 are quite different - I bet it could beat SP2 in speed but maybe not SP3. It would be nice if there was a benchmarking method compatible with all OS, like benching Mac, Linux, and Windows based OS's all against each other Cheers, Craig *I can send anyone the recipe if they care to try it, PM me. |

But you can have your gmail retrieve your yahoo. I have various email addresses and I only use gmail to retrieve and reply.
