Nothing better out there im my opinion than AVG. Their new version 8.0 also has a spyware feature. Plus it's free.

I've used this one before. Gets the job done!

Check out PC Tools free anti-virus. Works well, updates daily. Also, for enhanced real-time protection, download their free Threatfire software. These two combined are better than any other free anti-virus that I have seen tested. Threatfire monitors activity on your machine. If it detects a potentially malicious function being initiated, it stops the function and notifies you of the issue. You then decide to kill it, quarantine it or allow it to procede. It does not use database comparison technology as do typical anit-virus'. Threatfire uses very little system resources. It's completely transparent.

I run PC Tools subscription Spydoctor with anti-virus as well as Threatfire and their Registry Mechanic software. What's neat about PC Tools, is one subscription grants three licenses. You can install all software on three different machines. This is what I have done. None of the machines has ever had a virus, spyware or registry issue. Not one. Rock solid protection.

Google the above and read the test reviews....

My regards,

C.C. Jordan

You need more then anti virus as posted
We use a combo of 6 different programs to clean and maintain viruses/ spyware/ and malware on computers .... ONE PROGRAM WILL NOT DO IT ALL

all these listed below are free and used and updated 1 time per day will keep you clean to a good extent.

these can all be had from FileHippo.com - Download Free Software for FREE!!!

Viruses..
AVG ( Free)
also the old avg rootkit (if you can still find it..)

spyware

spybot search and destroy
spyware blaster
windows defender
Super anti spyware

Malware

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
download here
Malwarebytes.org

Adware.
As aware 2008 or the new 2009 both can be had free
ALSO the biggest one is combofix this you NEED

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
download this and run it in SAFE MODE
reboot pc hit F8 option pick safe mode..
and run it once in safe mode..

this is great for that 2009 virus and many others..

that is how you keep a pc clean in the modern age
do not let 1 program try to do it all like mcaffee or symantec they are to system heavy and just can not do it all

Good Day
