I have Lightroom 2 loaded onto my computer. Now what? What is the best way to learn it?

Import an image, go to the Develop Module, and adjust each slider to the extreme to see what is what.

Browse around in our Image Editing board for some other Lightroom stuff.

It is a really good program for most photographers.

Might try a Lightroom book by Martin Evening or Scott Kelby.

Martin's is pretty in-depth and Kelbys is more laid back and fun to read (for some)....

Congrat's on the great present !!!!! I have read lightroom 2 for Dummies.It was well written.....I'm about half way thru Scott Kelby's version of LR2 and, I would like to say the Kelby version is a better read ....He starts each Chapter with his somewhat twisted sense of humour......Its just an easier book to read IMHO !!!!

Great idea Mr. Pickles. I usually side with Martin Evening. I have yet to get a LR2 book but I have the 1.0 version and find it to be a great reference that sits within arms reach, along with a few of his Photoshop books, here at PhotoAbuse headquarters.

Another tip might be to collect a few feeds for your reader. Lightroom News, Lightroom Secrets, Presets Heaven, Inside Lightroom are some good ones. Some of these feeds are busier than others but they will not overwhelm you. Have fun! Lightroom is a very powerful and useful tool.

I have the Martin Evening book and it is brilliant! This is the first time I have used Lightroom so found ME's book a great introduction but also with lots of depth to keep me learning for months.

Borders always has big discount coupons that they mail to the 'Rewards members' (I got a 30% one today and used a 40% one to get the ME book). If you have a Borders nearby but not a coupon, PM me and I will forward my one (it's not illegal; I have handed a coupon to someone in the queue before at the behest of the manager serving me).

Presets are a way to repeatly use the same settings (mainly for the develop module, but also for the other modules).

You can download some here , here and here.
That last link is full of nice info on LR2, including a video on how to install them (here).

You can go to youtube and find many video tutorials. I used this site Training for Photographers, Graphic Designers, Illustrators, Multimedia Artists, and Hobbyists | Kelby Training
you can pay about 20.00 a month and get tons and tons of tutorials on anything photography related including lightroom.
