Well, I got virtual pc 2007 up and running with windows XP. My primary platform is windows vista 64 bit and I could not shoot with my camera tethered since it looked like no drivers for this platform.
After getting virtual pc set up, I loaded EOS capture (no problem). However, when I try to hook up my 20d, it still won't read the driver. It appears that it is still recognizing the camera on the windows vista platform. Yes, I am in the other virtual machine (or at least I think I am). I did note that something I read indicated virtual pc does not recognize usb ports (my camera is attached via a usb cable). I read a couple of people were using virtural pc to get around the vista issue so I'm hoping someone can help __________________

No idea. How do you like the virtual PC software, though?

You could set up a dual boot system and load Windows XP or Vista 32-bit to shoot, then reboot into 64-bit and access the files. Or you could look at another virtual system, such as VMWare. |

Hi my friend,
MS Virtual PC doesn't support USB. What i can suggest you is use Dual OS on your PC. Performance wise this much better than using VPC. Only drawback i feel is you can't use both OS simultaneously. Thanks and warm Regards, Bibin Babu QA Engineer, Sahir Projects, India. |

pacifica,
I feel your pain. Boy do I ever. Been going through the same thing of sorts. I just didn't install the virtual PC after all I have read on it. It really looks as if nothing will work short of running dual OS. No other software out there will allow the Canons to be shot tethered. Won't even read your card from your camera. If you are not going to install a dual boot system then all you can do is add a card reader. It sucks unless you know someone personally at Microsoft and can wake them up to reality in today's photographic production areas. |

Why don't you install VMWARE and make your own machine.? It has USB support.

Finally installed VMWARE and I can now shoot tethered with no problems. VMWARE PLayer/Server/Windows XP. All running great. You can also work cross platform with VMWARE. Now all I need to find out is how to have my images show full screen instead of thumbs. |

Good to see it's working for you. VMware is pretty much state of the art as far as emulating hardware as well as the OS. Dmrowley raised a good point about the SUN VirtualBox though - I've been tracking this software for a while and it looks like it could be very powerful (not to mention completely free), especially if you run it in hypervisor mode - XVM. You can pay quite a lot for similar commercial offerings, and with the power of today's CPU's running multiple OS's in such an environment is actually not that painful.
