Question Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw Question

I recently got a 50D and have had some irritation with it in post processing. When I open a directory in Bridge with 50D photos in it they look fine unless I preview them. Once I click on them (or double click to open) it messes up the colors on me. I am not sure what this preset is called, so I don't know how to turn it off or change it. In the image below I've clicked on the thumbnail on the left and it turned it that ugly green/yellow color. I've not clicked on the thumbnail on the right. Can you help me make it stop?

I tried it, but it didn't change anything. Well except now I can't remember how to get back the big thumbnails I had before.

Did bridge do an automatic install?
If you manually installed you have to remove the old 50d raw folder.
I'm just on my way out .
If you cant fix it pm John he's helped me numerous times

I don't have that option there. What version of Bridge do you have? Mine is CS3.

As I understand it: when you click (select) a thumbnail in Bridge the software generates a so called "high quality" preview. It does so by using the default settings of your Adobe Camera Raw. The solution is to change the default settings in ACR to eliminate the color shift and then save the new default settings. Exactly which settings need changing is a matter of trial & error. Check which camera profile is being used by your default settings.

OOps my bad.

The Advanced preferences option in Bridge 2.0 that lets you turn on color management is no longer available in Bridge 2.1. Instead, the thumbnail quality determines whether color-profile settings are used. High-quality thumbnails use color-profile settings, while quick thumbnails do not. Use Thumbnails preferences to determine thumbnail quality.

I think I have high quality set for thumbnails. Looks like I need to get into my camera defaults in ACR. Which is exactly where I didn't want to be headed. I think I really need to profile the camera, but I so don't want to. Time to get that Lee Varis book out...

Before you go that far look into the new camera profiles that Adobe has made available for ACR. They provide a wide variety of options and also can be customized by using the DNG Profile editor. Check the Adobe download site.
Go here.

ok - I'll go check that out first. I got the Lee Varis book out and looked through the calibration process. It just made me want even less to do that. - Thank you for the link.

bingo - that worked a charm. Here are the same two thumbnails after I installed the new adobe standard profiles and chose the one I like best (and made it my default). Thank you so much!

Here's what they were like before (left one with the previous default profile applied)

Happy to hear that was the solution.

P.S. I am not familiar with Lee Varis' book. The information I provided was gleaned from Fraser & Schewe's "Real World Camera Raw". This book is really required reading for anyone shooting RAW.

The Lee Varis book is called Skin. The first part is technical stuff, the rest is about shooting people. I'll add the book you mentioned to my list that I want to order from Amazon. Thanks again.
