I am replacing my old scanner. Can anyone recommend a good one? I don't need one with printer attached, just a scanner.

I recommend one that does Slides and Negatives (this assumes you have any) as that way you can convert old film shots to digital. I use a Canon 4200F

I also have a Canon 4200F and have been happy but I think that is also a discontinued model. While I have not shopped for a couple years I found back then that I was not as pleased with results from the very thin line models as the ones that were a couple inches thick. The pickups in ones I tried had issues with sharpness when the subject was not perfectly flat and in contact with the glass. If you only scan flat paper, there is no problem but I have been known to stick many other things on that glass for an image and had plenty of space for a less compact model. Is this still an issue?

I just downloaded drivers for my Canon 4200F to install it on my Vista to test it out and so far so good. Canon had updated the drives. I did see that this one is no longer in their product list the next in the series is 4400F
CanonScan 4400F film and negative scanner |

I just orderd a new CANON CANOSCAN 8800F FLATBED NEGATIVE & SLIDE SCANNER!
The specs sounds great and my Canon printer is so nice so I will give the Canon a try for scannng prints. Also, I am wanting to get a Nikon film scanner. A dedicated film scanner is the way to go for film and slides. |

I"ve been using Epson in business for years. I currently have a epson perfection V500, but there are newer models out. This scanner & the newer ones color corrects prints & slides & do a very good job at it. All my printers & scanners are Epson's & all do a great job. Sandi

Check out VueScan from Hamrick software. They have created scanning software that allows you to use your old scanner with your new operating system. I'm using an 8-10 year old Microteck ScanMaker V6UPL scanner with Vista 64. He has 2-versions; Standard & Professional, $39.99 & $79.99, and has a free trial version.
Here's the link https://www.hamrick.com/ Len |
