Once or twice a week, my login and password information disappears and has to be re-entered. Don't save them for my secure sights, but, like to keep them open for my fun stuff. Vista machine, Windows Internet Explorer, CA antivirus. I can't locate any automatic settings that would be doing this.

Do you run any "sweep" programs like spyware, adware, registry fixer, optimizers, etc? It happens to me on occasion, as well. I'm not sure which program is actually doing it and it doesn't do it every time. Typical Windows voodoo (although I'm running XP, not Vista)

CA runs spyware filter, It isn't set to delete any cookies though.

Are you referring to passwords for websites or accessing your computer?

Funny that you should mention this, as it is happening to me as well, but only on this site. As soon as I reply to a post (like I'm doing here) I'll be kicked off as a logged in user and will have to log in again. It only seems to happen on my laptop where I'm running Vista Home Premium and Firefox 2.x. It doesn't happen on my desktop with the XP operating system.

It sounds like Windowz is saying 'Hasta la Vista' to your cookies

I really wonder what's causing it. Sounds really weird.

Interesting. My home CPU does the same thing with this site and another I frequent. I cannot even post from my home site as it kicks me out that often. The funny thing is my home CPU is an old XP machine and my laptop (which has never did this) has Vista on it. I think there may be some truth to the spyware thing. I'll be interested to see if anyone figures it out.

IE has a spot for automatically deleting cookies and passwords, but no way to turn it off, can only change how long before it does it, currently set for 20 days, still deletes passwords a couple of times a week.

After reading some thoughts on this post I switched to Mozilla Firefox and have not had an issue since. I've always heard bad things about Internet Explorer, but never really experienced them to this year. I think I'll stick with Firefox.

Shame the Windows version of Firefox is not up to 3.0 yet.
Never had this problem on MacOSX: neither in IE, Safari, Firefox, nor in any other browser (and I have worked with most of them).

I didn't catch that in your post. I don't think I have an answer. The switch to Firefox fixed my problem.

I think 3.0 is available now for Windows.

Personally I've never had a problem with password retention on the camel using various browsers on OSX/Windows/Linux etc. There are lots of variables that can cause this issue but in the end will be a client side solution to fix it.

I think it is a Windows Vista thing. Might be that security scan program that runs once in awhile and it might wipe them. Happens to me all the time it use to bug me every time I need to launch Google Mail via the Notifier systray program. it remembers password for about 1 week or so and then IE 7 no longer does. On my XP Laptop it never forgets passwords (at least it did not use to, don't use it much anymore)
