Download AVG Free Edition 8.0.100 - FileHippo.com

Jeez, how hard is it to click a link? First download the setup file. Then disconnect from the internet. Then uninstall the old AVG or other AV program. Reboot (stay disconnected from the internet) and install the new AVG. Connect to the internet, and run the auto update. Done.

Does it make sense to download an ANTIVIRUS software from some other source than from the original (unless they directly link to the original source)? How can you be sure it's still in its original state? Just a thought.

Filehippo is the only place I'm aware of that you can DL the free version.

Ahh, thanks. That link eventually takes you to Download.com, so I guess there are three potential sources. Downloadd.com, FileHippo.com, and Grisoft.com are all reputable sites for freeware.

I had been using AVG for at least 2 years and went to the Free 8.0. Now with the computer at the shop having a ( or many ?) virus removed I am not so sure about the quality of the free version. Heard good things about it and it appeared to be working well as it would give alerts when scanning etc. Did a search and it was not rated very high but they also consider price which is not really my issue....a virus free computer is my on main concern.

I installed AVG 8.0 recently and i don't encounter any problem while using it. I think you need to upgrade to 7.5 first before you can use 8.0. Try to download it here grisoft.com and follow some steps..

They do this every once in awhile to see how many people they can get to buy the new version they make it sound like the free one is going away but it does not. Still using 7.x at home and no more 8.0 nagging.
