Hi All,
I am after a product that will catalog all my pictures on my PC. I then want to just tick a box per picture and have it then auto magically appear on an on line gallery, using the catalog info to place it in the correct area. If I un-tick a picture, I want it to come back out etc. I don't want to have to select pictures and then upload them etc... Does anything like this exist? Cheers __________________

Unlikely. You'd have to store all of the pics on a server connected to the Internet. There are server-based systems that can do this but they aren't cheap and you REALLY wouldn't want to store all of the images on something on the Internet.
There are plenty of gallery creation systems out there that are relatively easy to use. I can change my galleries within a few minutes using Lightroom. There are other apps that have similar capabilities. Or you can use a hosting system like pBase or SmugMug and simply hide/unhide images as desired. |

I use an old program called FrontPage. It is a WYSIWYG program.

Do you understand exactly how all of this works? The upload process copies information from your computer to a server somewhere on the Internet. If the pictures aren't already there, how would they become available to be seen without uploading? The only option is to work directly on a server already connected to the Internet that functions as both your storage system and the webserver. That's just a bad idea in so many ways.

I use FrontPage daily. On V. 2007 now.
FrontPage is a website editing tool, but won't automatically create the galleries RVRinTAS is trying to create. It would take alot of work to create a gallery like this with FrontPage. |

You can get many programs that will catalog your images. Then you can also get many programs that will display your gallery online. But most of the time these are two different things that will always require uploading.
Like mentioned, it can be done in an all in one program, but it will require a server in your house connected to the internet. A web server is the one option. Another would be a database server. There are other options, but again, this gets expensive. A simple solution would be to get a program you like for cataloging images and then upload your photos to your online solution. If you already have web space online, you can look and see if you can or have access to a free image gallery called Coppermine. Once this program is setup in your web space, you can batch upload your photos and it will automatically resize your images to offer thumbnails to full size images. If you want to know more about this option, let me know. I'm a IT Manager and Web Designer by trade and have my own hosting server. As another option, as already mentioned, hosting like smugmug is a great solution too. But again, the easiest and cheapest way is to find your cataloging software of choice and then upload to the internet. |

Sure it's been done and it is possible with the right software... but to have your images online, you'd have to have at least a computer connected to the internet and running day and night that hosts the gallery. Are you running such a computer or are you planning to?
