Default Switching to Mac - Any CS3 and Leopard issues?

I'm about to make the switch and get a new Macbook Pro, I'm curious if any of you are having any issues or are there any "I wished I'd known that" before I make the purchase?

I'm mostly concerned about Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom.

I use a Mac with PS CS3 and LR and can't think of any issues. They both run fine.

Like Tom says, tay and je, no issues at all. You will wish you had switched years ago!

Have fun!

Just switched from Windows XP Pro with PS CS to a Power Mac, Tiger 10.4.11 and PS CS3. No reall issues to report. Just be sure to outfit it with LOTS of memory and have a blast.

Take care,

Hey! OSX ain't Windows! Unless you process hundreds of MF 39 megapixel files on a daily basis 2GB of RAM will be more than adequate for 99% of users. You can run a dozen apps – including CS3, Mail, Safari, Word, etc. – simultaneously in 2GB of RAM with no issues at all.

Have fun!

Well I made the switch, I picked up the new Macbook Pro on Monday!

17" High Res
2.6Ghz
4Gb Ram
200GB Hard Drive
Applecare

I don't think I could have beefed it up anymore than that!

Maybe you have 6 cars too. You can drive only one at a time, though.
With a Mac you could have invested the cost of 4 of those GBs in other stuff...

Just one car, a Honda. I do programming and digital photography and both sometimes require a LOT of memory.

And the memory, for a PPC G5 was not that much. The 500GB drive cost more than the 4GB of memory recently installed.

I went ahead and did the same thing last weekend.

I purchased the middle macbook pro with the 15" display (travels better) and I went ahead and bought the 30" Cinema Display as well as maxed out the ram at 4 GB and the 250 GB hard drive.

CS3 runs like a champ and I'm currently playing with the Aperture 2.0 demo. I like it a lot.

Oh yes, and I'm wondering why I didn't make the switch ages ago. I'm sure I would have been much much happier.

My last Apple computer was an Apple IIe (remember those?)

I would prefer to forget. Apple never did respond about a dead floppy drive 2 days outside of warranty (it blew a hole in a chip in the drive). :|

The Mac is NOTHING like the old Apples for which I am forever grateful.

Take care,

Probably not, tay. Congrats on your new toy! But what when it packs up? Suppose you have a harddisk crash. It happens, you know (both my HD's crashed in the last 4 years!). Have you got an iron-clad backup arrangement? Apple's "Time Capsule" is great! Incremental backups at timed intervals and a super convenient User Interface. Just set it up and forget about it.
For redundancy I also have a backup set on an off-location HD, that I refresh once a month.
Need to restore one particular file from 4 months, 2 weeks, and 3 days ago? Just surf to that date in Time Capsule, navigate to that file, click on it, and click restore. Done!

And I sleep better at night too, since!

I have only one catch so far.

Fotofusion is only available for PC. Looks like I have to keep at least one PC system up and running.

Anyone else use any kind of software that has the Fotofusion kind of functionality and ease of use on a mac system?>

I have that software yet have not used it in years. Unfortunately, as you have discovered, there is not a version for OS X. I do keep a system with XP Pro around so I can use it and another program only for Windows. Not ideal yet tolerable.

No catch, Julio: you can run Windows, XP or Vista, and all associated software, on a Mac.
Ironically enough the MacBook Pro is the fastest Vista running laptop on the market...

And with Parallels you can in fact run Windows and OSX simultaneously, and side by side on your Mac. Without rebooting.

Try that on a PC!

Don't forget about VMWare Fusion... it too runs Windows, Linux & just about another other OS that you can think of....

Picked up my Mac last October... wish I'd done it much sooner!

Smartest move Apple ever made was switching from IBM's Power PC chip to the Intel processor...
