Default Lightroom vs Canon DPP

Not sure if my work flow is working I was converting everything from Raw in DPP then bought Lightroom. I loved the Synch feature so the last two projects I did everything from Raw to saving as Jpg in lightroom.

I noticed that DPP when you convert raw to Jpeg the file is 7 meg while lightroom the file is 2.8 megs. I like lightroom for the "synch" feature that I don't see in DPP but I am wary of the smaller files.

Is there a way to synch in DPP or should I convert to raw from DPP then correct in Lightroom?

How do you do it? I am worried about that missing 4 megs in Lightroom but also hate to have to correct each individual file in DPP when it is a minor Color temp adjustment.

Any advice?

Two things:

1. DPP can do batch corrections as well.

2. How, exactly, are you "saving to JPG"? Technically, LR doesn't "save" to a JPG but exports. What are the settings?

Settings are 100% Nothing else is checked not resizing to fit or anything else. Color space looks like it is adobe RGB.

Is the following how you batch correct in DPP

You can correct one photo in DPP, copy that "recipe" to the clipboard via the Edit menu, and then paste that recipe in one or two clicks to all the photos with the same conditions.

Never compared the two so I don't know if it's a bad thing or a good thing. Personally, I don't convert to JPG unless I'm shipping it out for some reason. And if I'm doing that, I generally want it smaller than my RAW files anyway.

Do you feel you're missing something after the conversion? Looking at a DPP JPG and a LR JPG side-by-side, is something not quite there?

Beats me. I don't use it. I just know others do it regularly. Search in the Image Editing or Canon forums for more info. It was discussed recently.

I was sending them out and also printing at adorama.I figured in printing I might loose something. I will look at them side by side. Thanks for the help.

I believe the color profile in Lightroom is ProPhoto.

It's selectable on output. Adobe RGB, sRGB, or ProPhoto (in version 1.4.1, at least).

heh...no kiddin? I never heard about that. I thought we were locked in on Pro Photo. I'm gonna have to mess around with the settings then. But then again, I may be better off just leaving everything the way it is...

Wonder if I should set it for prophoto. I really like the workflow in Lightroom.

Are you referring to setting it for LR use or exporting to JPG?

For exporting to JPG, I usually set mine to sRGB since most of it is for web work. Web standards don't include color space gamuts and browsers typically default to sRGB. Using aRGB or ProPhoto will give weird colors in web browsers.

Internally, I have mine set to ProPhoto, however. I also export to ProPhoto when editing in Photoshop CS3.
