Not to mention all my crucial, irreplaceable documents and other data. Imo the safest (non-enterprise) set up for backing up – with triple redundancy – is to have a RAID1 (2 mirrored HDs) on-site, and a third mirror HD off-site (exchange once a month for one of the other 2 HDs). |

Emmanuel - I've been using Carbonite for a couple of months now, no problems so far! The initial backup took AGES, but additional photos added seem to be backed up fairly quickly. I'm slightly uneasy about the security of my photos, so treat Carbonite as a last-ditch backup if all my other methods should fail. However, if I was selling my photos or making my living from them, I think I'd find other methods.

I think the idea with backups should always be that you have several. Online services such as this should just be one extra level of protection--they should not replace the backups that you yourself do.

Amazon S3 in conjunction with Jungledisk work very well for me. Aprox. 11GB backed up so far costs me a little more than $1.60 a month (they charge approximately $0.15 per gig per month). Jungledisk turns your S3 account into a mapped disk drive and automates the backup process.
