Just thought I’d give you guys a heads up. There have been quite a few problems with the new QuickTime Player 7.4… and up. It won’t allow you to play QuickTime files or watch QuickTime files on website. It usually results in the error "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down". It also prevents some programs from stating up. For me, I was unable to launch Adobe Fireworks version 8 or CS3 but once I deleted the QuickTime folder (from C:\Program Files), all was fine. I have also read that it is causing problems with FinalCut Pro, Adobe After Affects and some other programs. No one seems to know what the fix is as of yet. I’ve come across several articles with possible solutions but none have worked for me as of yet. My home PC has IE7 and my laptop PC has IE6 and both are affected. It is also affecting other browsers. My advice is to disable any auto update selections on QuickTime and on iTunes as sometimes iTunes is bundled with QuickTime. One of the problems with QuickTime is once you upgrade, you can not downgrade… real nice of Apple to do that. I started reading an article last night which mentioned a possible way to downgrade but it appeared to be for MAC only, I will have to re-read the article. Anyways, just thought I’d give everyone a heads up to spare you from the headache I’m enduring. Have a great weekend!

FYI, Vista, IE7, CS3, QT 7.4.1. No problems, everything works fine. I think "most" people won't have problems, but there's always gonna be a few that will (with any software or upgrade).

Looks like I'm one of the unlucky few.
In doing searches I found quite a few forums with people having the same problem, I wonder why I was one of the chosen ones. Hopefully I'll get it figured out, I just pray I don't have to reformat in order to get it fixed! |

iTunes 7.6.1 – under OSX.5.2 – ain't so hot either. It's frozen solid on me 4 times already, while I was browsing, in the last few days. OOPS! Make that five times...! Even Force Quit hung! The whole machine hung! That hadn't happened to me in a couple years! Required a hard restart... Must've been that last Software Update. I've seen a bunch of similar bug reports about QuickTime and iTunes on a couple Mac boards. That's two of Apple's major software technologies catching a cold at the same time? WTF's the matter? Looks like there's something not going quite right there at all...
I don't like it. |

Don't know if it's the same problem or not but FF used to crash every time I use QT player. After updating to the latest version everything worked fine. Then the problem started again. With yet another update it's working now. All this in the last week or so.

When you say you updated, to you mean you updated FireFox or you updated QuickTime? I looked at Apple's site and it looks like it's still the same version 7.4.1 .
I ran Norton Ghost and took my computer back to after a reformat due to a virus that launched itself when I visited a webiste (seriously messed up my computer within a matter of 2 minutes). I now have QuickTime version 6. something, but when I visit Apple's site I can hear the videos but no picture. It does state that you need version 7 in order to watch the video so that's probably it. |

I'll tell you what happened in my case.
See, English is not my first language so I often go to Merriam-Webster dictionary to get definition and pronunciation of words. When I click on the speaker's icon, first I get the message "You need to update QT player to listen to the sound" or something to that affect. Then a message from FF that says "an error has occurred and you need to restart FF", or something like that. This happened twice, and updated QT each time. Funny enough, while trying just now to get you the version I have, QT won't start. In any case, the version I have now is 7.4.1. |

Hi all,
This is not the only problem OSX is having with freezing. My new MacBook Pro freezes after every it goes to sleep of more than 15 minutes. The keyboard will light up, if I open the lid or touch the buttons, but the screen is totally blank. I have to ro a hard boot to get it going again. There are way to many problems with this happening - I flipped to mac to save me the hassels, instead I end up with more. __________________
