I just wanted to post this out to the group...I had the unfortunate incident of having a disk containing about 2300 photo's get corrupted and could not read or see anything on it....
I found this software...get data back...I ended up reformatting the disk...and recoveringg all but a few of the pictures.... I would recomend that you always use a seperate drive for your pics and this can make getting your stuff back. The reason for the second drive is that you can not recover from the disk with the OS on it, mainly because you have to run the software somewhere else... I would also highly recommend the Dlink DNS-323 for a back up device....not only do i back up my photos here + DVD archiving...but this little wonder has an FTP server built in which allows me to copy all my pics when on the road to another machine or retrieve stuff I have on there.... That's it for now...but these 2 things have proven their worth a few times over... A __________________

I have about 10,000 photos which I am in the process of cataloguing and keep 3 copies, 1 on my PC and 2 on external HDD's.
Better be safe than sorry even if you manage to recover lost photos I found a lot of work was required to rename them. |

No kidding on the files names...for the most part...the meta data was saved so I was able to recatalog and then move to a logical directory structure again...thank goodness....
Painfull lesson learned! Now have a copy on my pc and a mirrored array for backups.....also going to DL-DVD them once I weed out a lot of the junk I seemed to have saved over the years...then the DVD's go into a safe deposit box at my bank....heaven forbid a fire or a corrupted original set. |

A program that has saved my bacon twice now is Norton Ghost. I happened to stumble upon it while searching the net. It basically takes a very detailed snap shot of your computer and your My Documents folder if you tell it to. You schedule the jobs, just like a virus scan. You will need quite a bit of room for the back up files as they are very large (mine are about 80 GB's or so) it will keep a few copies depending on what you set it to. You can also do manual back ups any time you want. Next time I reformat, I'm going to do a back up once I get all my programs installed and then copy those files to an external HD. That way when ever I need to reformat, I can call up those files and it will take about 1.5 hours and I'll be up and running with all my programs loaded and serials entered. Anyways, just thought I'd mention it.
