Default wide monitor

I have a 24" [wide] monitor and when I bring photographs in photoshop etc, the pictures seem to be distroted in width, has anyone had this kind of experience and if so......is there a way to fix it so the pictures look normal [they are a little too wide]
thanks

I think you can adjust this with screen resolution.
Go to control panel from the start menu appearance and themes then screen resolution.
Thats as much as i know don't work with a wide screen so i couldn't tell you which setting to use..

I'm no expert..

My guess is that you're not running the monitor at its native resolution, i.e., it should be 1920x1200 and you're running it at 1600x1200. Can you check the resolution?

What Tom said. LCD monitors should be run at their native resolution for best viewing, especially photographic editing.

Also check in PS that under the image drop down that pixel aspect ratio is set to square.
