HP. Bought one of the last new ones that still came with XP. Had a Sony before that and it was absolutely bulletproof.

Gateway. Used to be a Mac Man but switched about 10 years ago. Still love the Mac. Just had too much invested in software for the PC to switch back.

The one I voted on is a Mac. In addition to this Mac, at home we have HP, Dell, Acer, Alienware, and maybe even an old Compaq or something.

Doesn't Apple (Mac) have only about 4 percent of the PC market? Yet here it's leading?

4% was the 2004 figure. Apple's general market share's been growing steadily since MacOSX and iMacs. Today it's well over 8% and still growing.
But that's the general PC market. Vastly dominated by the faceless masses of office and Mom & Pop PC's.
Photonuts are into images. Graphics. That's traditionally Apple's preserve.

On this board there'll be a large share of Macs.
On gaming boards the Mac's share might not even top 2%.

And, oh yes, I run a 20" Intel iMac, a 24" Intel iMac, a 17" MacBook Pro, and a 17" G4 iMac.

I've been very much in the camp of the PC for the last 15 years, but I'm seriously considering getting an Apple for my next PC purchase. I'm giving serious thought to the Mac or a Macbook pro.

I've never worked on a Mac so what's the learning curve time expectation to get comfortable rolling around the Mac world? (Pun intended).

1-2 months tops. Usually less.

I had run Macs before I bought my own, so it only took me a few weeks to get back into things.

I built my own computer. Never had a serious problem with it (knocks on wood).
However, it's time to build a new one. And since I work for Intel, and can get an employee discount on the Microprocessor.......... Yeah, I'm going to build another PC. At $145 I really can't pass up going for the Quad Core Q6600.
And the rest of the components are fairly reasonable as well (with the exception of a decent Motherboard).

I'd say that varies from 5 minutes to 2 weeks, depending on the applications you use most and know best. Some are virtually identical to what you're used to on the Windows platform, like Photoshop, so you'll be pressed to find any difference at all. Others are very typically Mac, like iPhoto and GarageBand, and, like with every new app (on any platform), will of course take some time to get used to. But that time will be a pleasant voyage of discovery and thoroughly entertaining.

And for your peace of mind: you can always fall back to working in Windows, because all your Windows software runs fine on a Mac.

But I doubt you will want to.

BTW, the MacBook Pro is an excellent choice: it is the fastest Windows Vista laptop on the market!

LOL!

Have fun!

I honestly think the Mac is the best option for photo/video editing. I've used them all and still look forward to OSX most of all. It is a learning curve and lots of people will give up in the process but once it clicks it's so much nicer and less in your face than Windows (especially Vista).
