I am starting to be spoiled by Photo Mechanic... Thank u for the Tip! It really is fast!!! Perfect for fast checking and also the slideshow works fine. I also love the two pics side by side -thing and also FTP in a viewer is very nice. Very handy. I just hope they continue in developing this and add more qualities in it. I think this is fastest with D2x NEF-files of those I´ve tried so far. Now I am even more disappointed to the fact that I just a couple of days before bought Iview Media Pro which with me doesn´t work at all >
. I also gave a try to the XnView - seems nice, but much more slowlier with big nef-files.Oikku www.oikkus.com __________________

I actually use iPhoto on the Mac atm - it's really easy to organise everything (a bit like the simplicity of iTunes). OS X Tiger now has the Spotlight functionality so you can find any image really quickly (and if you're really anal then you can add metadata to the image which can also be searched via Spotlight).
I'm going to be looking at other options shortly, so this is a useful poll for me to see what's out there (OS X only though ) |

Adobe Photoshop Elements and Album is--in my opinion--the best for a few reasons:
- Tags. - An integrated tool to back up the photos. - Timeline view. - Comprehensive yet simple export options. - And most importantly, its attitude of "don't touch the original." PSE/PSA always preserves the original file. This is otherwise known as "versioning," but I don't know of any other application that handles this process nearly this well. Combine these (and many other unique) features and it's a winning package that no other program can touch. (At least, as far as I've seen.) Dan |

Well, I've recently been trialling both Photo Mechanic and Portfolio on the Mac. Photo Mechanic has the slickest interface I've yet used, with good support for Olympus RAW files and a snappy interface that responds nicely to single key commands - in contrast, Portfolio has a very rich metadata support, and nicely abstracts the underlying filesystem into a powerful catalogue, but is a little more 'clunky' in use. Both surpass iPhoto (my current cataloger) as they can handle ORF/RAW files. I'd recommend either if you need RAW support - otherwise, on a Mac iPhoto is pretty much all I need for JPG.

I am really surprised that iMatch wasn't listed here, it is by far the most advanced image management tool out there and the price is more than reasonable. It does have a little learning curve associated with but what doesn't? I sure didn't learn Photoshop in a weekend!*
![]() I highly recommend it. There is a free trial available that's not limited at all. The creator/owner of the software quickly responds to any questions that may come up, in my experience Mario has always got back to me within 24 hours. http://www.photools.com/ Neil __________________
