There are plenty of mac fans around here. I grew up on computers in business and in Europe, and there just weren't any Macs in either of those joints.

If you really want to me a member of the Mac tribe, it's "Mac" not "MAC".

At work we use Macs, with the occasional PC laptop.

At school my department (Fine Arts) uses Macs. Our sister department (Design) uses both Macs and PCs.

The rest of the campus, with some exceptions, uses PCs.

At home we have both Macs and PCs.

------

I see both crash with similar frequency.

The Mac vs. PC debate is similar to the Canon vs. Nikon debate. Computers, like cameras, are tools. In the hands of a skilled user, each can be used to produce wonderful things, but in the end they are just tools.

Is Vista supported to run on Mac? No. Still it runs with only a few hickups on my wife's Mac.

Mac user for over 18 years (started at 2).

For the MAC vs. Mac debate, MAC is an acronym for Mouse Activated Computer. Mac is an abbreviation for Macintosh.
PC is an acronym for Personal Computer. They're both used as the same reference.

You're better off saying MacOS vs. Windows...

Macs don't just run MacOS and Vista. They run XP and Linux flavors too. And all simultaneously, and side-by-side on-screen.
Try that on a Wintel box!

Yeah right!

PC's run Linux too natively or in virtual machine. That Mac's can run Vista is more a positive argument for Vista. Mac is restricting their OS to run on other hardware
than Mac's - also it could probably run on intel PC.

Macs are used and have been used traditionally by those in the artistic fields and, early on at least, in education. Honestly, I think that's been part of Apple's "problem" in getting the platform more widely adopted. In the big picture, you ain't gonna get much traction in terms of market share if your products are seen as useful primarily to what amounts to a couple of niche markets. Apple's other big goof, of course, was keeping their hardware proprietary and their prices high. If it weren't for Jobs' skill in moving the company in directions other than the personal computer, Apple would likely be in very bad shape right now--if it existed at all.

At home we use:
  • 17" MacBook Pro (me)
  • eMac (family living room)
  • 20" iMac G5 (daughter's)
  • 13" MacBook (son's)
  • PowerBook G4/667 (other son)

At work we use:
  • 15" MacBook Pro (me)
  • 24" iMacs (photographers - 11 workstations)
  • 20" iMacs (photographers - 2 workstations)
  • 13" MacBook (photographers - 5 laptops with USB 3.5G modems for locations)
  • PowerMacs 2x G5 2GHz (photographers - 3 workstations)
  • PowerMacs G4 (photographers - 5 workstations)
  • 4 windoze PCs, rarely used for non-photography work.

Personally, I think windoze requires a power user to get a smoothly running productive machine. Unlike Macs, just start working.. Plus the fact of having a virus free environment under Mac OS X.. As for crashes, I've experienced crashes on both Macs and windoze computers.

In 1983, I've started using an Apple //e and the IBM XT.. I fell in love with Apple since then as I felt the reliability.
