Default Needing some info

Hi everyone.

I'm in the market for a new computer and will be buying something new sometime this winter. In the meantime, a friend is giving me a G4 that he had in storage sans monitor (not a problem). I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it. I have looked a bit on the net for specs, but am pretty dense when it comes to computers. I am guessing that it's maybe 3-4 yrs old, I know it was used in his business (graphic arts design and marketing) and know that he spends top dollar on his purchases. Will I need an external hard-drive for it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had a chance to sit down with him and talk about it.

I doubt you'll need an external hard drive but if it's 3-4 years old you may need more ram for it.

When you get it, under the Apple menu at the far left the first choice is About this Mac. Click that and then click the More Info... button. That will tell you about the hardware that's installed.

You can check the disk size, the ram and much more.

Are you familiar with the Mac OS?

Thank you so much for responding. I'm not that familiar with the Mac at all. I had a Mac with my ex (multiple computer network) but never touched it.
