Default Cf card failure and backup solutions

I will be doing my first wedding as official photographer in 2 weeks [26/11/2005] and was wondering about how often memory cards fail , I thought that I was being paranoid but then today , while taking some snapshots with my Canon S70 which will be the backup for my Nikon D70 , I got a card error on the screen and could not format the card on either my S70 or the D70 . It was with a Kingston 512meg Elite Pro card with a lifetime warranty . Now I am even more paranoid .
I was thinking about the prospect of having my two 1 gig cards available and swapping the cards over every 20 pictures so that I have half the weeding on each card . In almost a year I have had no trouble with the 1 gig Kingston elite pro vard in the Nikon now this happens . A month ago I did get some water on the LCD of the S70 which made 2 black marks on it but continued taking pictures with no problem . I would imagine if water was the problem it wouldn't have worked for 6 pictures in the morning before failing . Any other suggestions besides having two cameras going alternately ?

Sounds like good advice , I will have my laptop present , as I did at a wedding I helped with a while ago I ran a slideshow of the pictures at the reception . I wll have two 1 gig cards so I will download them but keep the pictures on the cards and download again on the desktop for backup .

That is why I generally stay away from wedding photography , with landscapes you choose what comes out and sell it , weddings can get nasty if things don't work out . I am using Kingston elite pro cards and just received another 1 gig in the post , the supplier says he has replaced 4 or 5 out of a few thousand he has sold . Why the heck must one fail on me 2 weeks before the wedding? [ How do I scream on this reply ?] Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

I've already posted it back , the dealer I bought it from on www.trademe.co.nz which is our local 'ebay' sent it with a 1 year warranty and I have contacted him and another card is on its way . I will have two 1 gig cards for the Nikon and 2 512 meg cards for the Canon . I may set the Canon up on intervalometer in a corner and see what it comes up with at 1 shot a minute for 100 shots ...

First time I've seen that site . I originate from South Africa 4 years ago . A year ago was the first time I ever found out about image libraries when I decided to start selling a disc of 900 pictures of New Zealand taken on my 4 meg Panasonic DMC-LC5 on the local auction site www.trademe.co.nz ,[for about $30 a time ] then a few photographers contacted me and said " why don't you sell them on an image library " and I said " what's that?" .
