Default TEK help Router Issues

Lost my wireless in the home about a week ago...dunno why just did...my old LInksys G was 3 years old so I figured it fried...
I go buy a new Linksys N and tried to comfigure it yesterday INTO this morning and can't get it to work...
I am on a cable modem
I have run the CD (no help there really)
I have pulled all the IP addy, subnet crap, DNS 1 and 2's etc from the modem and entered ALL fo that on the ROUTER setup page per the instructions...after all of that, I can't get the router to find the internet....
If I UNPLUG the router and go str8 from the cable modem to the PC all is well...yet when I rehook the wirless router (correctly) and ALL of the lights are a blinkin...I get no internet activity...Is this a router/config issue...or can it be cable modem related (don't se how as it works directly connected to the pc...hence my being able to post this question here)...
OK I know some of you might can give me some direction
