I just recently got a new Dell 2507 monitor. The resolution and view are wonderful compared to my old one. I have one problem however, at 1920x1200 rsolution, the print is so tiny I can hardly see it. I have enlarged the dpi by 150% but even find that too small at times. Some of my programs winn enlarge using the muse wheel or control/+ but some will not.
I wonder if any of you have better solutins for this issue so I don't have to go blind. Thank you for your help, and best wishes. ![]() __________________

I'm guessing you're using Windows. Can't you right-click the desktop, choose properties (I think) and then adjust what fonts are used for file names and menus? I'm pretty sure it's in there somewhere. That might help.

Just curious, but is there a specific reason you wish to run your monitor at that high of resolution ? I just set up a TV/Monitor at 1360 (lowest setting) for a friend so he can watch HDTV on his monitor, but he has to reset it to use his computer otherwise he cannot see anything. If there is not a reason to run it that high could you lower the resolution to a size that allows you to see evberything on your screeen?

Mikey, the resolution is great when looking at photos. I can enlarge as need in photoshop or the Adobe programs. So yes, that part is great. It other programs that are the problem. Some will not enlarge, the internet I need to enlarge most forums to read the print. It would be nice if there was a way to set the monitor to acertain level for everything. I thought perhaps others did something different.

There are a number of ways to tweak the visual appearance of particularly high resolution monitors but I've never found one that does it all for everything. I've gotten used to the higher res and smaller type. It's not a particularly easy thing to balance.

aam, the 1920x1200 resollution is wonderful to show the detail in the photography. As it is enlarged, there is more detail along the edges and the fine areas. This, in theory, [assuming I am smart enough to use it] allows for more control when processing the image.

When the display adapter's resolution matches the monitor's physical pixel dimensions, it's called the "native resolution". |

Also worth noting, in photoshop when editing and examining your high res pics it's important to be using an even percentage of zoom. Such as 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%. If you have it at 33% for example you can see the jagged lines as well because it's in a weird ratio. Sort of weird if you ask me, but It is very noticable.

It isn't really weird. if you look at an image at 100%, every pixel is displayed. If you zoom out to 50%, the display has to hide every other pixel. Go out again to 25% and every other pixel is hidden again.
So happens is it is always hiding pixels in a square pattern. It still introduces jaggies, but they are harder to see because of the square pattern or pixel hiding. Now if you pick an odd resolution like 33%, then what happens? In between some full image pixels, the display has hidden one pixel. But in between others, it has hidden two pixels. So if you had a diagonal line, and hide one pixel, then skip one, hide one, skip one, and hide two, you can see it will be a more pronounced jag in that spot. Do it over 19" of screen, and you got "lots" of jaggies. With the square ratio hiding, every other one jags, but the jag is consistent across the monitor, so you don't "notice" it. It is there though, just 4 times harder to "see". |
